Wiz Gold is the version of Wiz-7 (Crusaders of the Dark Savant) that works in Windows. You can get it alone, or in a pack called The Ultimate Wizardry Archives. I've seen both on E-Bay from time to time. For less than three bux.

Going bak to KOTOR, what Riftmaker said.

In the options menu there's an auto pause menu where you can specify when the game should pause, such as when you spot an enemy etc. You can then give individual orders to your people, unpause and fight. Combat rounds are only a few seconds long though so you may get p*ss*d off after a time having to unpause the game to re-commence fighting every few seconds (after giving fresh orders of course). What I call psudo-turn based.

You can also run it like BG in that you press spacebar when you want to pause and issue new orders, and resume until you change your orders again. I always loved that about BG2....comes in handy with timestop and improved alacrity

Try Planescape Torment. It has a real cool story.

If you don't mind outdated graphics, you may try Betrayal at Krondor, which is definitely cool.

And that you don't need fantasy elements to make unbelievable great RPG's was prooven by Fallout 1 and 2, which are DEFINITELY worth playing.

I had Wizardry Gold & Bane Of The Cosmic Forge but didn't give either of them a fair chance 'cos I kept getting stuck (didn't have an internet connection at the time so I couldn't look up the answers in guides) so I got rid of them both fairly quickly.

I wish I'd kept hold of them now because I picked up Wiz 8 not expecting to get that much out of it but loved it, I reckon I'd have the perseverence to go back and play the old ones again but I can't find them anywhere either.

Three of my favorites Mindflayer especialy Fallout. Krondor was simple but great story and a lot of fun but no replayability.

PS:T is a really weird style of play. It's more of an adventure style RPG than a number driven RPG. It's really cool though.

WizGold can take impossibly long times to load the wav file sound effects, and eventually you just turn the sound effects off. The speech is where it usually crashes though. I love the voices, but if the text screws up, you'll be forced to reload and keep going. I'd recommend Wiz7 instead. Go get DoSBox or VDMSound to run it.

Betrayal at Krondor is HARD! I mean, HARD. Just trust me on that one.

The Fallout games are worth playing, but you have to be ready to get killed a LOT. You'll find that you'll die more often than you think you should.

BoTCF would be fun to play. Start a party there, import to Wiz7, and to Wiz8. Gonna need DoSBox or VDMSound to run it.

One thing I would definitely recommend if you want a FF style of graphics / story with a PC style of play is Septerra Core.

I've tried Wiz 7 Gold but was put off by the camping experience. Ok if you have a suitable fountain nearby but if you don't...

Beginner dungeon with Ra'sep're'tep. The fountain is good. Once you get far enough with either Umpani, you have access to the Humpawhammer. Same with the T'rang. From there, access to that fountain is practically easy. And travelling isn't hard in that game. I never camped, I just traveled around the world to go a fountain.

And Wiz7 can be hard with no help, but it requires some real thinking. Loved the game.
