Hey, are there any good books to read on IWD or BG?
Or maybe any recommendation on Drizzt?

I picked up the "Icewind Dale Trilogy" by R.A. Salvatore, it's great for background info on Icewind Dale, and supposedly introduced Drizzt. It's 3 books in one, all have been really enjoyable.

Hmmm I read the Drizzt books first.
Homeland Exile Sojourn Then the Icewind Dale books. The Crystal Shard Streams of Silver The Halfling`s Gem Seems to put them in better order that way. Even though I think the Icewind Dale books were written first (not sure). Reading them in the above order makes more sence to me. I have seen books based on the Baldur`s gate games in the store also though. Not sure on the author,or author`s....

The way you suggest is the chronological order in the life of Drizzt, but I think they were published in reverse. For me it's too late, I saw the "these books introduce Drizzt" line and started with those - but I will go back and read the others when I am done (closing in on page 800 or so out of 1000 in the trilogy book).

I found the Legacy of the Drow more interesting than Icewind Dale, but The Dark Elf Trilogy is the best I've read. Paths of Darkness is also good

All the R.A Salvatore series on Forgotten Realms is good..... Try to read them in order because, the characters develop and change, not to mention pick up new friends and equiptment....
Can't wait to get my hands on "A Thousand Orcs".

The Icewind Dale Trilogy (Crystal Shard, Streams of Silver, Halfling's Gem) was SORTA published before the Drizzt books (Homeland, Exile, Sojourn), but the Drizzt books are a prequel to the Icewind Dale books.
I say "sorta" because I seem to recall seeing print ads for "Homeland" at about the same time I saw the ads for "The Halflings Gem". It's actually funny... I think Wulfgar was intended to be the main protagonist for the series, but that Drizzt turned out to be more popular with the readers. Kinda like how Raistlin stole the show from Tanis in the Dragonlance books. |
