According to Gmail Engineer, Jon Perlow, the Mail Goggles for Gmail will 'check that you're really sure you want to send that late night Friday e-mail.' When enabled, users would have to solve a few math problems after to click send. This exercise is used to 'verify' that you are in the right state of mind.

By default, Mail Goggles is only active late night on the weekend as that is the time you're most likely to need it. Once enabled, you can adjust when it's active in the General settings.

Basically translated, it means that if you try to send an email in the wee hours of the morning, you have to answer a couple of math questions before it's allowed to go. Think of it as a field sobriety check... if you can answer those questions, then you're probably sober enough and in a right enough frame of mind to send it.

Yeah, except I use math as the basis of my job and can answer a whole load of questions in that vein even when drunk - so how does it help me?

But to hell with them. I don't want Google ruining my right to trash my life just 'cause I'm too drunk not to!
