Possible strategy spoilers

I'm loooking for strategy techniques to beat the Chromatic Demon. I'm still running through SoA, and doing this as sidequest, so my party is a bit weak.
We are:
Main (F10/Th13(14?))- choices: Daystar/Adjatha(mastery), 2 weapon style(***), Flail Ages (proficient), +3 bastard sword (not even proficient), shadow dragon armor
Viconia (Romance)- just got lvl 7 spells
Jaheira - lvl 6 spells
Valygar w/ Celestial Fury and one other electricity sword (katana?)
Mazzy - +4 short sword, AC -8 (best AC in party)
Nalia - Robe Vecna / Staff Magi
also: +2/+3 bullets / arrows acid, fire, and ice

Problem is I can't damage the demon. I can summon lots of creatures (incl. fire elemental staff summons) and keep him at bay, w/ my fighters occassionally darting in to deal out some hits until he turns to fight them and hits 3 times for 60+ damage and they w/draw to heal.

My hits just don't damage him physically fast enough to keep up w/ regeneration. All weapons I use do only 1 or 2 points of damage, even after I breach him ("Spell protection removed" text appeared). He never switched to shambling mound, so Valygar's electricity never got used. The specialty arrows didn't seem to do much good. And, to top it off, most spells fail. It's so desperate I'm thinking about having them rest and having Vicky Gate in a Fiend.

Advice Anyone?
No - I'm not trying to *DO* all of the Keep w/ this party, I just got the expansion pack and couldn't resist delving a bit.

THANX

If you read the notes of the wizard, you'll notice that the chromatic demon can only be hurt REALLY .. ( not the 1-2 damage ) by the element opposite to his current form.
So my fav. tactic is to distract him and have him run after you, untill he changes into his Ice-form. Then just have your mage unleash all of his fire spells. ( preferable a spell-trigger with fire-arrows, but you didnt mention nalia's lvl i think ).
Make SURE Viconia casts Flame strike ( devastating) .. do lower his saves by a Greater Malison and Doom first though.

Should work that way

hmmm...

try to hit him with weapons that do fire ice poison and electrical damage...

that is what my wizardslayer used
when he was a demon i hit him with something that does ice damage like the frostreaver(arrows are fine)
when he was ice golem with stonefire
when he was air elemental i used the FoA(upgraded)but didn't help a lot...
when he was a shambling mound i used the celestial fury...

my main character was using the equalizer though... he is a demon anyway

The Chromatic Demon has inhuman Damage Resistance against physical attacks. Try to iniate the fight with him when he's in his Ice Form, since there are plenty of fire spells and effects in the game. A Flame Strike is enough to take out a sizable portion of his hit points.

Yeah, but I tried that last night and his MR caught it. I'm gonna need to use Lower Resistance / Doom / Greater malaison (what lvl is that) to get him. I'll have to completely retool my spellcasters and rest just for this guy - hate that.

Oh, my god, I'm starting to actually miss Aerie and her impressive repertoire of spell options - I traded her for Jaheira so I could pick up more Harper's Quests. Look, I know we all sometimes want to kill Aerie for her mewling(well, most of us, anyway), but she's actually pretty useful.

Can't make use of y'all's advice until tonight - I'll squeek on a reply tomorrow if my further attempts are all for naught.

1) 3 Lower Resistances

Thanks dan, silent bob, and rimjaw. I hit him with pierce magic (Nalia) and Doom (Vicky) at the same time - and proceeding to go through him like warm butter. A few things were interesting:
1. When he was shambling mound (vulnerable to electricity), celestial fury was still blocked by MR.
2. I caught him in ice form when i hit with pierce magic & doom. Then flame strike for 30-35 pts damage. (I had memorized 3 and only used one).
3. But, the kicker was that my dual F/T PC started hitting for real damage after the pierce and doom - though no one else's hits got better. I was using Daystar & Adjatha, I have 18/9? STR and I was doing 7-9 hp per hit, at several attacks a round (2 weapon + **** and boots of speed - that's 5 attacks I think). I'm wondering why my "golden boy" protagonist was able to do this. Anyone have thoughts?

Yeah, Dundee, the Harm idea struck me, but I figured I'd have too many front-liners (PC + Valygar + Mazzy) and summons in there to chance trying a one-shot touch spell w/ Vicky.

So, thanks all. Now I'm getting creamed by the denizens of hell and the abyss in L3 Watchers (Maze). That will be another post, though.

remember magic resistance is a percentile, basically a roll against a stat
so sometimes their MR will catch it, and sometimes {especially if it's been lowered} it won't
you are going to miss aerie in that trade...;}
