The families of some marines who knew about the alleged incident have been talking.

One mother told ABC television that her son had been traumatised after being forced to photograph the bodies of civilians at Haditha, including a child who had been shot in the head.

Time to stop questioning an army in a warzone. What the hell do you think that's going on overthere ? A bunch of soldiers on a campingtrip or something ? I wonder how we would overall regard WW2 if we had the same kind of news sources we have today. Would we rant and rave about Erwin Rommel for killing so many soldiers in such a short amount of time ? Or would he still have the same status as he holds today ?

Give them a very wide margin of deference, certainly, an amry cannot function effectively if it is strangled with beaurcracy. Stop questioning in them, never, no one is above the law, even on the battlefield. The killing of civilians which is reasonably avoidable is unacceptable. To do so in way which it is alleged has occurred here would be a disgrace to the army and the country they severed.

Acts such as these are more akin to the acts of the Waffen SS than the Afrika Corps. In fact Rommel was known for the sense of chivarly which he showed to his opponents. Soldiers are not civilians.

I would like to beleive that the reports are untrue, however, history shows that regretfully there is the possibility that it may be true.

A while ago, I heard a speaker talk about the two kinds of military you need today.

For war-related activities, you want 'em young, single, full of testosterone (yes, even the women ), and slightly ticked off.

For occupation-related activities, you want 'em older, married, and stable.

Getting the right type in the right place with the right quantity... there's the challenge.

Johnny, I realize you're a wannabe Southern U.S. Republican at heart and want to give the military deference, but the wholesale slaughter of civilians is just that. It wasn't fair game in WWII or Vietnam, and it isn't fair game in the desert now.

That said, let us please wait and see what the findings are. As the government has stated, it's premature to assume anything until their investigation has determined whether or not they will indict anyone. You can't trust the media to know or predict on this one, they're just running to the next talking head who'll give them 5 minutes of air time.

Apparently US troops in Iraq are going to receive ethical training in "warrior values" in light of the investigations.

Hmm, unfortunately the Beeb has uncovered a new video which appears to directly contradict the marines' account of events.

The soldiers claim the victims were crushed by a building they were in during a firefight, whereas the video shows the victims with gunshot wounds.

If they didn't recognise this as 'unethical' without traing then God help them...

Yeah, most victims were reported to have gunshot wounds to the head and chest. Its not looking good for mis-reporting by the media.
