This topic came up in the protest thread, but seeing as that thread is approaching 6 pages I thought I'd post this to it's own thread.

Which Companies Will Put Iraq Back Together?

Excerpt:
Quote:
The companies that have been invited to bid on the work include some of the nation's largest and most politically connected construction businesses. Among them are Halliburton, where Vice President Dick Cheney served as chief executive from 1995 until mid-2000; the Bechtel Group, whose ranks have included several Republican cabinet alumni; and Fluor, which has ties to several former top government intelligence and Pentagon procurement officials.

Others bidding on reconstruction business are the Parsons Corporation, the Louis Berger Group and the Washington Group International, which absorbed Morrison-Knudsen in 1996.
The entire article is about 3 pages long, so I'll not paste the entire thing.

um.... we'll see how this plays out. Right now it's speculation. Personally, I think a company like Halliburton profiting from the war should be as illegal as insider trading.

Halliburton has already profited nicely from the 'War on Terror'. As I recall they got the contract for building prison facilities at Guantanamo Bay as well.

The military industrial complex always profits from war and alot of people in power profit either directly or indirectly from the death and destruction caused by it. An American politician benifiting finacially because of it is nothing new.

By capitalism's own nature, someone has to profit from the war.

No one profits from a war except the victor, and even then, the victor has lost many lives.

You are correct sir

FOR THE REST:
What does it matter which companies get to rebuild Iraq? Would it be better if the Iraqis have to suffer longer in a desemated (SP?) country with little or no infrastucture? Would that make some people who are anti-war feel better? Where is the compassion you know the "The children are suffering from the sactions" compassion? I guess it would be OK for the children to suffer even LONGER because Lord knows we certainly can't have Halburtan or any other company that might have ties to anyone in the Administation!
