I just did up a quick (one day) design to send up for beginners etc. to get the idea of. But when I told it to 'Global clear the design folder'--it really, really, really did.

I saved it right after the 'clear' but all my wall and small pics are gone. I can see my design on the 2d right but only blackness on the 3d left. And the 'new' pics etc. are not in the now saved design folder.

Me or a bug?

(I saved it separately to a different folder before 'clear' so I still have my original. Save, save, save.)

The Clear Design Folder does just that, deletes every file in the folder. But if you load a design then clear it's folder, all references to art/sound files point to nothing. That will cause errors and blank pictures. Saving the design doesn't fix things because the editor tries to copy source files to the design folder and cannot now that the source files are all gone.

If the design is cleared, and then the design folder is cleared, there shouldn't be any problems. Just clearing the folder alone is trouble. I'll remove that as a direct menu option, and then ask the user if the folder should be cleared when they clear the design.

Sorry. I don't get this at all.

This time I cleared the design, then the design folder, then I've saved 'my' design and it still has all the default art in it. i.e. I replaced the four default portraits with 'my' prts. Now, when I go to 'Global/small pic pool' it shows only mine as listed, but, when I save it the actual design folder shows mine and all the default art, still.

Clearing a design should restore all settings to the default values. For the small pic pool, this means loading all default small pic files. As installed, there are only four default small pic files - prt_spic1.pcx to prt_spic4.pcx. After clearing a design, any small pics you added to the pool yourself should be gone and only these four should remain in the pool listing.

If you added additional default small pics to the DefaultArt folder, such as prt_spic5.pcx, then it also would be added back into the pool when the design is cleared. The editor automatically adds any file named prt_spic1-prt_spic50 to the pool.

If you added non-default pics to the pool, such as mypic.pcx, it should not be in the small pic pool after clearing the design. If this is what is happening to you then this is a bug.

After clearing a design, clearing the design folder, then saving the design, only the small pics listed in the small pic pool should be in the design folder. Also, other small pics that are in use by events and such. There is a file in the design folder called ReqArt.txt that lists all art files that the editor knows about and their source. The source is general, such as level 1 or global.

Now after re-reading your post I think my assessment of your question is wrong I think the question is really, Why do I have the default small pics in the design folder after I replaced them with my own in the editor?

If you save a design that has default small pics in the pool, then change the pool to use only your own pics (removing the default art), and then save the design again, the new pics and the old pics will be in the design folder.

The editor doesn't keep track of resources that are no longer needed by the design, and won't delete files from the design folder although it will over-write as needed. That's part of the reason I write out the ReqArt.txt file, so the designer can determine which files are required. The same situation sort of applies to the wall slots. Any wall slot that has art loaded will save it's art files to the design folder, even if that particular slot is not used anywhere.
