Grumphy Gromph taken in his daughter... hmmm..

interesting so far...

one complaint:
the drow elf on the cover does NOT MATCH the description in the story....

she is supposed to be slender not pudgy/buxom

well... not as bad as White-skinned elderly Drizzt on 'Legacy' cover...

If you ask me, never compare the cover art to the story. I always thought that they artists would read the story to get an idea of what to draw, but no way. For some reason all women are always half-naked no matter what the situation. And Drow, nobody can draw drow, they hardly ever even look elven much less the scourge of the Underdark. The two on the cover of Daughter of the Drow look kinda Italian to me, except one has a really, really bad sun tan. The cover to the sequel is better though.

I agree, pictures of Drow are blumin' awful!

The best Drow artwork I've seem was in the AD&D Monstrous Manual and in the Gold Box RPG computer game 'Curse of the Azure Bonds'.

I think most artists renderings of Drizzt sucks. At least book wise. They make him look old, or they make him look like Spock with dark skin.

I also agree with you concerning artwork. It basically sucks...

ALTHOUGH...the sequal to Cormyr...not death of the Dragon, but the other one...the one before it...I cannot remember the name. The female warrior on that cover looks almost real! That is my favorite cover for a book that I own.

I think the closest good book cover art of Drizzt is 'Sea of Swords' and 'The Crystal Shard'

Aurican - I agree, never judge the book by its cover....

The best picture of Drizzt is on the cover of the Legacy of the Drow Collectors Edition, which is the Legacy, Starless Night, Seige of Darkness and Passage to Dawn novels all in one hardcover.

The sequel to Daughter of the Drow is Tangled Webs and the cover of that book is brilliant.

Tangled Webs cover is much better than the Daughter cover. I never really care what the cover looks like though, I'm more interested in the story, and I must say that I was fully engaged in both of these books.

Does any one know if the sequal to Tangled Webs was ever written?

Not as far as I am aware, unfortunately.

Gotta differ on the book by its cover routine. Typically, if a publishing company thinks the book is good, they'll invest in a good artist to do the cover.

Hehe, now, it shouldn't be the entire basis of one's decision, but always consider the cover when buying the book of an author whose works you aren't really familiar with.

There are quite a few books I've bought on the basis of the description on the back, the cover art, the publishing company (Tor, for most of them) and the thickness of the book. And I've got to say that most of those rank pretty high among my favorites, especially C.S. Freidman's books.

Anyway, never judge a book SOLELY on its cover
