I have always had a felling that my druid had mor powerful spells eventhough everywhere it says that mages have the best spells
which is the best Druid vs Mage

In IWD, I'd have to agree and say 'the druid'.

Naaaaaaaaah, my mage Arris has the most AMAZING spells. The druid Illauna doesn't. She spends all her time as a wolf. She has forgotten how to be half elf now.

Personally, if you want to compare to other IE Games, Mages got shafted in IWD. However... and I emphasise here, Mages are still powerful in IWD, just not as powerful as in other IE Games.
From memory, I can think of several nice spells like Magic Missile, Chromatic Orb, Melf's Acid Arrow, Snilloc's Snowball Swarm, Web, Flame Arrow, Haste, Mordenkainen's Force Missiles, Vitriolic's Acid Sphere, Stoneskin, Emotion:Hopelessness, Lower Resistance, Cloudkill, Death Spell, Chain Lightning, Monster Summoning VII, Mordenkainen's Sword, etc... ... Druids have Insect Plague, Summon Fire Elemental, Spike Stones, Giant Insect, Sunscorch, Static Charge, Call Lightning, etc... ... The best case scenerio is to have both in your party. I usually have a Cleric/Ranger and a General Mage together in my IWD parties. |

I wouldn't say that the Mages got shafted in IWD they do have extremly powerful spells and I enjoy using them. It isn't as though you actually need the extra spells found in the other games. I wouldn't complain about the mage in IWD they do have tons of powerful spells available the hardest part is building up to and finding the spells. Druids have really great spells and are fun to use in IWD. I would say if anything Druids got shafted in every other IE type game.

No Time Stops, no Contingencies, no Sequencers, no Skeleton Warriors, no this, no that. Oh yeah, Mages did not get shafted in IWD.
![]() I am not saying that Mages become pussycats in IWD, but they did get shafted in IWD. Did I mention that my Mage has to squabble with the Bard to see who gets to scribe what? Ha! It is hard to have 2 full-time Mages in a party unless you merely want one of them to be a Magic Missile caster, which is silly. Priests? You can have a whole party of Priests and they will all be able to cast whatever they want so long as their level is high enough. Man... what I want to see is to combine the BG2 Mage with the IWD Priests, Bards, Rangers and Paladins; and mix in a few kits plus sub-races. |

i gotta agree with Dundee. In IWD, druids are a lot better than mages, but you still should keep a mage around. Compared to bg 2, iwd mages are wieners

The druids in IWD and HoW are very powerful and if you count the animal changes then i would have to say Druids. However some of the spells you can achieve to get as a mage are very powerful too, particularly the summoning spells (my favorite)

I never reallyu used the shapeshifting abilities, but what I did use in almost every hard fight was 2 times the shambling mound
