I've just got my hands on IWD2 and the import section of the character generation is something that has risen my hopes. I have a character that has competed BG2 and near complete ToB (I think the final battle remains) and I've been loosing my hair about a week or so 'cause it seems my IQ is too low for character export/import from BG2 to IWD2 (or to be precice, from ToB). So someone please tell me how it is done. I've run out of google searches and common solutions in general. Need to start IWD2 is bad but not without my trusty berserker Thanks, Pasi

Even though it's advertised that you can, you can not do this.

Probably the best thing you could do is make a fighter/barb dual class in IWD2. Maybe they said this would be possible before they decided to use the 3rd edition rules in IWD 2

And if you look on the filetypes, they are differecnt both in type and number of files/character.

IIRC it was only advertised that you could import your BG2 character into NWN, rather than IWD2.

This was also scrapped for a number of reasons - 3rd Edition rules vs BG2's 2nd, and the fact that it would have broken the plot for NWN + all expansions (since you start NWN as a level 1 academy student, and SoU as a level 1 apprentice etc, not a level 40 god).

As for the "Enraging fighter", you could do as Aragorn suggested and make a figher/barbarian. Take a level of barbarian (to get the speed boost and barbarian rage ability), then go with fighter until you have all the feats you want, then switch back to taking barbarian levels to improve your rage and get the damage reduction etc.

Why don't you post the stats, I'm sure we can make an acceptable build for you that resembles it.

but is there really a point to that?

As far as i can see there can be 2 reasons why someone would want to import another character
1. continuation of storyline (example: importing from bg1 to bg2).
2. your character has kickass abilities and you like them and got used to them.
(example: importing from NWN to IWD2 if it was possible).

neither applies here. storyline is completely different and as for abilities and stats you can only build something which vaguely resembles it. the main things: ability scores (18str in bg2 is very different from 18str in iwd2), thaco/bab, ac, sving throws, skills and feats are completely different. only thing which are somewhat similar are spells for spellcasters (and even here it is only the spells themselves that are similar!!! the magic system is again different: magic resistance, saving throw dc, bonus spells... etc).
so how will you decide what thaco corresponds to what bab and so on?

so all in all while like JrKAS says it is possible to build somehing similar, if you do it you will only try and play it the same way you did you bg character. and then you will only discover that the charecter *is* in fact completely different. better just create a new iwd character and play that out.

Well anyways... Can't say what drives me so that I was sad to hear that this is not possible... I guess it is the character... not any special item or ability but the whole package... Here are few things about my character and I've marked (between O____and____O)the things that I quess could be major factors to me... XP of course is allways one driving force

Alignment: Neutral Evil
Gender: Male
class: Berserker Level: 18 XP: 2756253
AC: 8
THAC0: 3
Total Hit Points: 107

Ability Scores
STR: 18/64
DEX: 16
CON: 17
INT: 9
WIS: 8
CHR: 14

Ability Bonuses
To Hit: 2
Damage: 3
Open Doors: 30
Weight Allowance: 250
Missile Adjustment: 1
Reaction Adjustment: 1
Reaction: 2

Saving Throws
Paralyze/Poison/Death: 3
Rod/Staff/Wand: 5
Petrify/Polymorph: 4
Breath Weapon: 4
Spells: 6

BERSERKER: This is a O_____warrior who is in tune with his animalistic side and, during combat, can achieve an ecstatic state of mind____O that will enable him to fight longer, harder and more savagely than any human has a right to. Berserkers tend to be barbarian-like in nature, but not always. Sometimes it is a conscious choice that a warrior in training makes. Regardless, opponents on the battlefield will be unsettled when they see the savage and inhuman elements of the berserker's personality. This class is common amongst dwarves, known to them as 'battleragers'.

Advantages:
- O____May use 'enrage' ability____O once per day per 4 levels. The enraged state lasts for 60 seconds.
- While enraged: +2 to hit, +2 damage, -2 AC
- While enraged: immune to charm, hold and fear, maze, imprisonment, stun and sleep.
- O____While enraged: gains 15 hit points. (this is very interesting point! to trade hitpoints with reason and pain, BUT have a choice when to do so. the choise is the key to me, otherwise why not make an orc or a troll, in theory)____O These hit points are temporary, and are taken away at the end of his berserk spree, possibly killing the berserker.

These are the "feeling-based" things that I would like my main-man to have
There are item-based things too... like my theme of fire resistance... and ability-based things... most important of all some abilities that I became very good with... like "smite", to throw one...

I quess if I should sum-up all this ... A human-male... not the brightest candle perhaps but can give all and more when desides to do so...

But to be honest, I'm really not sure what the appeal is to my BG2 chatacter... but it is strong... thanks you all, and I'll be monitoring your replys... hails, Pasi.

i know this is a bit of a ressurection of a thread, but i belive that IWD II is set many yeas before BG 1, and that is the reason stated in the IWD 2 manuel for the characters not to bee compatible. They are however completely different characters because the way the game functions is totally different in IWD to in BG.
I was dissapointed that i couldn't transfer my characters over, but i just did what has been suggested, created a new one on the basis og my BG character.
