I am on the verge of quitting the game. I can't find a class that I can stick with. I love the game, and the fact that I can't settle on a class that I like is so damn frustrating that I want to snipe some people in DC...

*ahem*

Anyway, I am considering soloing a Cleric/Mage on Insane. What are the advantages/disadvantages of the class, and some good combo's with it?

P.S. A solo avenger is next after this, and then I will just stop playing for some time...a year sounds good.

Cleric/Mage are like gods when your in the upper levels. If you have the Bonus CD and you can buy the Robe of Vecna, you ARE a god! Personally, this is my favourite class. Theres not really any disadvantages to the Cleric/Mage class itself, but I find it difficult to solo with any sort of spell-caster, because you don't have any back-up. Should be quite a challenge, but thats good!

I can't stress enough how much I need a challenge
Everything I do is either too easy, or too dull. Solo fighter is very difficult, but hack and slash is not my thing. Solo sorcerer is great (favorite class in terms of power), but kills everything like there's no tomorrow.

P.S. Did you have trouble soloing a sorcerer? (If you did that in the first place)

Well, if you want something both challenging and rewarding, and, keeps your interest, try a Fighter/Mage/Cleric. You will level slowly, be quite weak in the start with poor hit points and only so so melee and spell abilities. Your power will come slowly and steadily. Most of your Cleric and Mage spells will be used to buff your Fighter abilities, slowly but surely turning you into a machine of pure death, dismemberment, and distruction.

What you will have eventually if you are patient. A Fighter who can cast Draw Upon Holy Might, Rightious Magic, Chant, Chaotic Command, and, then Stoneskin, Mirror Image, Blur, and Tensor's Tranformation. All of your combat stats will hit 25. (Str, Dex, Con) You will get the Fighters hit point bonus for high con, although reduced by 1/3. But still pretty good. Stack Tensor's on that, plus, all of the THAC0 bonuses for all of the self buffs, you will eventually wind up with a THAC0 of somewhere around -10 or so, maybe better, depending on weapon selection. There are several Clerical spells that add temporary hit points as well, so, along with Tensor's, you can become a high hit point, hard hitting, damage causing, spell casting fiend of the Lower Nine Hells. Dual wield Crom and Flail of Ages, or, the Improved Mace of Disruption, get the Bladesinger Chain, Amulet of Power, various other trinkets, you can claim your Godhood long before the Thone of Bhaal moment. Toril will never be ready for your presence, Helm will wet his pants realizing what just slipped under his watchful eye, creeping up on everybody, even Lord Ao will realize there is now somebody powerful enough to crack the planet in half. BOO FRICKIN HOO!

I seem to have gotten carried away I hope this helps, have fun

Thanks, butters. I was considering it, but I need to reinstall XP remover first.

Pyrenk - if you're really looking for a challenge, try a No Realoads game.
BG2 can't get any more challenging then this. Every single encounter suddenly becomes a thrilling experience.

It is a challenge - rest assured.

One that no one has ever succeeded, if I am not wrong. Not even the non-modded version of the game.

"You have been petrified."

"You have been imprisoned."

"Oooo, that trap gotta sting."

"Say, did you know you had a 5% chance to fail your save versus death? Well, you just did."

^ If I make a game, I want my game feedback to be like that.

"Forgot to boost your fire resistance huh?"

"See. This is why Mommy always says not to wander the streets at night."

"Yeah, I didn't know it could do that. Now we both do."

"Bet you never expected a critical maximum damage hit too."

"Have I mention lately how irritating Confusion is?"

"Feeling lucky? Coz that's a Dire Charm headi- oops."

"You just had a major battle, you're on your way to an inn. Out of spells, out of special abilities, low on HP, no more Healing Potions, no regeneration items, oh look! It's another bunch of Muggers and you just died from an arrow. Ain't life grand?"

etc... ...

Actually, i know of at least three people that soloed the game without any reloads, including ToB: Westley Weimer himself (couple of times; insane), Gebhard Blucher (Gnomish T/M; Core Rules), and Two, of the GameBanshee community (Half Elf Skald; Core Rules).

You, of all people Dundee, should know that achieving a state of invulnerability isn't impossible in BG2. When fully buffed, hurting most characters is almost impossible.
Also, don't forget that many dangerous areas - namely, Illithid related ones - are optional.

Alas, I suffer from the "Must do everything" mentality. I am impressed though. Were they modded or non-modded?
