Since BG3 will be a prequel, I've been very dissapointed because I just came up with a fantastical story. I thought it would be much more fun if you were level 1, so here goes.
Fast forward to the very end of ToB. CHARNAME ascends the Throne of Bhaal. The gods find some way to botch your ascension into godhood. They drain you of all your powers, godly and otherwise,(hence, level 1) and take the essence all for themselves. You must find out what happened to you(amnesia, or gods destroying your memory), and destroy the followers of the gods to gain back your Bhaalspawn essence. In the end, you can choose to destroy all the essence, along with CHARNAME, FOREVER(kind of like the alternate ending in Jade Empire), become a god(The ONLY god, because all the others were so weakened by you), or spread the Bhaalspawn essence to every creature of every plane, ensuring you survival, and ensuring there could never be another War of the Bhaalspawn(that could be successful). Always Tacky And Ridicoulusly Inept has confirmed BG3 will be a prequel, so that cuts this story from ever happening, but it could be a mod of some sort... Maybe a mod for ToB, but it would be really massive.

Hhhm. How about assuming your previous character actually ascends to the throne and make a new fresh char who has to vanquish this new evil deity in a grand finale. And make it the first 1-30 level crawl ever instead of chopping it up in aggravating bits.

A sequel would be hard... given the level of powers you attain in ToB...
A prequel would be more sensible. |

For an unlikely sequel, i´d prefer to have none of that "all your power, TAKEN!" stuff, it always gives me the "WTF?" feeling.
Really would piss me off to have built my ubar charname of doom only to get leveled. But i do see the possibility for an sequel. Just force dump charname and plant the player in the boots of a level 1 pea-bag errand runner trying to rise in the ranks of charname's worshippers. Or something such... For a prequel however... Ehhh... "1-20 years of life in Candlekeep: the childhood of CHARNAME!" Leaves you with the option of exporting the level-1 pile of dung you´ve trained up into BG1? Or... Hmmm, lemme think... discover teh tempel of Baahls eivl worshippars adn tell goreon aboot ti?! No... Hmmmh... Well, no matter the storyline... What i am more concerned over is that the game has about 0.003% chance of being done with the original infinity engine, and that´s where it´ll leak out most of it´s good and true Bhaalspawn essence. ![]() [ 07-10-2005, 03:55 PM: Message edited by: GoblinZ ] |

*sigh*
This discussion has been on and off for so many times that I can't remember how much I've posted my own take on the story. Addmittedly, I think I'm not the only one who's come up with the prequel idea (see Atari's new statement) but I still keep on hoping that they saw my posts here and decided it was a chance worth taking. Anyways, there's absolutely no necessity to be CHARNAME again. Why should we? What's the reason a prequel should be about him/her as well? I always thought a prequel could be about a young(er) Gorion (including the Harpers, their knowledge about things, perhaps even combined with the activity of the Zhentarim), about the Time of Troubles (I highly doubt there's a more entertaining period of time than the Time of Troubles, when the gods were forced to walk the realms!), about the plan Bhaal had forged so he could return to power (including the crazy massacre of countless infants so his essence would return to the Throne). There's no need to come up with a brand new evil (see Neverwinter Nights for bad examples) because at one point the world's supposedly full of evil. And every new evil being is at least ten times more powerful than the last. Gimme a break....

I think that's a pretty cool idea. I wish BG3 was going to be a sequel, since then there could be multiple things that could be added that I wanted from ToB. Here is what I would want in a sequel:
1. a duel between CHARNAME and Cyric, or 1b. A war between the followers of CHARNAME and the followers of Cyric 2. Bhaal grandkids (possible possessing even greater power than their parents, maybe you could play as one). 3. Aquire the powers of Bhaal (transform into the ravager or so on). 4. If it is set, say, 50 years after BG2, you can still aquire some of the more long lived characters as party members, like Aerie and Jaheira. A prequel, IMHO, has less potential. Will you play as Gorion or otherwise aid him? We all know how the story ends, so it seems like a prequel will be as good as the prequel trilogy of Star Wars. Well, theres my 2 cents. |
