- - - - - - - - - - Well, first of all, talk to Jeb first to find the information ( you have to pay him), then talk to one of the chicken owner and tell him that you want to buy the chickens, then the farmer will give you the gem. The gem is uesd to upgrade the horn of varlhalla. |

You need not do it the diplomatic way, brute force will also do the trick.
The gem is not unique (though rare) and can be found at other locations too.

The gem is called a Beljoril. And the chicken one is not the only one in the game IIRC.
