I found a sweet deal where I can get both BG2 SoA and ToB for less than $30. The CDs aren't in mint condition, but they work and have all of the documentation with them. I'd be lucky if I found SoA for $30.
So I've spent my birthday money and bought the CDs. I plan to play a character through BG1 and import her to BG2. (I'm installing ToB with SoA, hence the reason the post is on the ToB board.) I'm hoping to dual-class this character from a fighter (or thief, haven't decided yet) to a mage, probably at clvl 2 or 3. I am also hoping to take the wild mage kit upon character import. My question is, can I still do this? I've looked up a couple walkthroughs and class guides, and haven't found an answer. Will I not be able to take the wild mage kit if I dual-class, or does ToB care about that? Also, and this is for any kind of BG1 dual-classing, will I lose that dual-classing when I import my char into BG2?

I believe dual-classing won really matter, except fot the fact that IF you dual-class to a mage at lvl 2, you'll end up being a lvl 2/31 fighter/mage at the end of ToB. That's basically a pureclass mage. So if you want to get any benefit out of dual-classing, it might not be a good idea to start in BG 1 allready.
Also, the wild mage isnt a kit. The Wild Mage is a class. And I dont think you can convert any BG 1 character to that class. Even if it was a kit, you can only dual into classes, not kits .. so that wouldn't have worked anywayz. Do consider the wild mage though. I cant tell you with certainty that a pure mage from BG: 1 cant be converted into a wild mage once starting SoA. Hopefully someone else knows. I am currently playing a party of 4 wild mages + 1 sorcerer. And i must say that Wild Mages are a lot of fun, not to mention potentially extremely powerfull around ToB-time ( infinite lvl 9 spells, search the SoA-forum for the topic using the search-function, just search for " wild mage " or something ).

Well... a Fighter->Mage is powerful, but even more so if you choose to bite the bullet until your Fighter reaches level 13, then dual to a Mage.
Level 7 is considered okay too, but since you got ToB, might as well make it level 13. You will not lose out on your Mage class. As such, consider playing a plain fighter until you reach BG2, then change to the Kensai kit. I believe you are allowed to re-select your weapon proficiencies as well. Dual-wielding Katanas are the usual choice, but Quarterstaves are a viable alternative( and it makes you unique too! ![]() One rule about dualclassing is that while you are allowed to dual FROM a kit, you are not allowed to dual TO a kit. The Wild Mage is a Mage kit, and as such, not a valid option to dual to. You can only dual to a General Mage. Kensai->Mages are the most powerful combination in the game. Have fun! PS: You get to keep your dualclass from BG1( if any), but it is better to dualclass in BG2. [ 02-18-2003, 09:28 PM: Message edited by: Dundee Slaytern ] |

(tiny spoiler) ARGH. I was hoping to play BG1 chapters 1-4 as a fighter, dual-class to mage before chapter 5 to reap the roleplay-based experience in Baldur's Gate (and level up quicker), and take the wild mage kit when I imported my character into BG2 Soa/ToB. Now it seems I cannot do this! ![]() Have fun! I hope I do too...I'm still waiting for BG2 to arrive but I'm finishing up a couple parties so I'll have some high level characters to start the game with: a female chaotic good half-elven cleric/ranger, a male lawful evil gnome illusionist/thief, a female human paladin, a male chaotic neutral bard, and a gender-swapping chaotic evil human fighter (who just loves the genderbending girdle...). PS: You get to keep your dualclass from BG1( if any), but it is better to dualclass in BG2. In the case of the wild mage, I was dualing just for the purpose of proficiency stars and roleplay aspect. Why is dualclassing in BG2 better? And have fun with your BG1 game. ![]()

Pirengle-
Dualing then is better due to varoius abilities. For example, if you wanted a fighter mage...you could bring the fighter up to level 13, have all kinds of prof points, then get an extra .5 attack per round at level 13 (cause that happens)...and then dual. Also, you'd have more HP than dualing in BG1. |
