I just got a new comp and was transferring the old saved games over from old comp to new comp and everything was going fine until an error came up that said it cannot recognize BG2 .Gam file. I need help on how to get my new comp to recognize .gam file any ideas or hacks? Thanks Guys.

Are you sure you have installed all the patches you had had on your old comp?

Thanks for the REPLY,
Yah I have checked and basically the game on my old comp was just the raw edition; i.e. no patches , the problem I am having is that I can't find any program to read GAM. files, whatever that is. Go into your BG@ soa files and go to "Save" file and then to 00000000AutoSave file and there will be a file that is labeled .GAM file and has a computer looking picture on it. What is it and how do I get it to transfer over? PLEASE HELP! |

What is giving you the error? Your second post makes me think your trying to open the .gam in windows.
Copy the entire save folder over (network for preference, otherwise floppies, CD_Rs, whatevers easiest for you) and put it in your BG2 folder and you should have no problems.

I went and did as last reply specified and took my whole folder and transferred it over to the new BG2 soa files and all of it copied over as before except the Baldur.Gam file. It has this message "Error Baldur. file did not copy, could not read from specified device". Any ideas?

More likley the Hard Drive in the old computer is damaged. Try copying it to another folder on that drive, then to a floppy. You might have some luck running scandisk. I hate to say this, but that save is probably unrecoverable. This shoudnt be a problem though. Nobody except me is crazy enough to play for hours with only quick and auto saves, right?
