Okay so you know when you have an olive with a pitt in it, like in a salad or as part of hor d'oeuvres? How are you supposed to eat them so it's most polite? Stick the whole thing in your mouth and chew all the olive off the pitt then take the pitt out of your mouth? Or hold the olive and bite off the olive and leave the pitt in your fingers so it never goes in your mouth? It's just so vexing

Spit out the olive, preferably in someone else's face, it brings conversations alive at the dinnertable.

How do you eat olives? Well you got to Merovingian from the Matrix (who just loves them) and he will teach you how to eat them in a proprely manner.

Both are pretty accetable, it depends on the situation I think.

ROTFL! Aelia, what is it with your weird topic diarrhoea lately?

Anyway, I believe the proper etiquette for things like little bits of (fish)bone, olive pits and fruit kernels is to remove the thing from your mouth with your hand while shielding the procedure from sight with the hand, so that no one sees what you're doing. Then you hide the removed object within your hand and put it on the special plate for garbage and bones if there is any, and otherwise on the side of your own plate.

I dunno Mel. I'm a deep thinker is all. A blessing and a curse

Impressed with your diarrhoea spelling btw. Not that I'd expect anything less from you, but still, you see some real butcherings of that

Heh heh. It was too obvious to pass up And yeah, it was kinda gross, but a little toilet humour can go a long way in some cases

And as far as I've experienced, there's no real universal ettiquette for pitt-dispensing. Do what you feel you've gotta do In an un-sophisticated, all-male setting spitting the pitts across the room into a bin (or failing miserably to do so, as is more often the case) can be a fun way of getting rid of those annoying olive-embryos.

But when civilised people (ie: females) are present it often pays to be more discreet. I'd go with the hide-and-pluck finger technique

God what an obscure poll. Olive-eating etiquette? It's so damn random. I do wonder what goes through your mind in coming up with these sorts of things, Mel.

Anyway, I can't eat olives. I've tried - my God have I tried. My oesophagus just cant take it though. Olives are one of very few foods that I physically cannot swallow.
