Over 11 million voters and they all voted for Saddam! There is something very very wrong with this outcome.

When you realize that the punishment for speaking aginst Saddam is having your tongue amputated, it makes a lot more sense. BTW, Barbra Streisand today wrote about Saddamn as "The dictator of Iran."

From the story:
******* Iraqis in Baghdad could be heard firing in the air in celebration after Ibrahim's announcement of the results in Parliament. The government already had declared the day a national holiday, even before the results. Clusters of men took to the streets, dancing, at the news. Nabir Khaled Yusef, a van driver, and one of them: "My feeling is of happiness. This referendum and the 100 percent shows that all Iraqis are ready to defend their country and leader." ******* - There's a story here. If you voted against Saddam, you had to be a dancing celebrator. If you refused, you were shot - that was what was being heard. ![]() **** On Tuesday, it was apparent that the vote was different from what most people know in democratic societies. Some voters stuffed bunches of ballots into boxes, saying they represented the votes of their entire families. **** - This seems perfectly normal to me. Oh, wait, you folks who aren't from the Windy City wouldn't understand. ******* Ibrahim defended the 100 percent figure when asked by reporters whether such a percentage wasn't absurd. "Someone who does not know the Iraqi people, he will not believe this percentage, but it is real. Whether it looks that way to someone or not," he said. "We don't have opposition in Iraq. They are situated in northern Iraq. Inside Iraq, there is no opposition. ******** - I think the "we don't have opposition in Iraq" says it all about this bulls**t. ***** A poll among Kurds in northern Iraq -- who are not under Saddam's control -- bore out Ibrahim's statement on the opposition. The poll conducted by the Iraqi Institute for Democracy showed 94.5 percent of Iraqi Kurds questioned said they would not vote for Saddam. ***** - There will be LOTS of dancing and shooting guns in the air there tomorrow, I bet. ![]() [ 10-16-2002, 07:04 PM: Message edited by: Timber Loftis ] |

It's hard not to vote for him when that is the only option you have.
Iraqi: "Humm... who should I vote for? Humm... there is saddam, or maybe saddam..." Edit: And it's even harder if instead of a private voting boot, the votes are taken in a public execution ground. ![]() [ 10-16-2002, 07:08 PM: Message edited by: Luvian ]

2 things
1st) Saddam has capitalized at being an expert at brainwashing. Quite honestly, his state propaganda machine is incredible. No one can "think" of anyone better than Saddam soo... 2nd) Most of the voters vs Saddam probably recognize that a) Their vote doesn't matter worth a toss and b) They're better off staying low and below the axe than voting for no real reason. Oh, and Saddam probably, maybe, only slightly could've touched the results ![]()
