I actually learnt about this movie through its soundtrack, as it contained the first work in almost a decade by My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields; I didn't know at the time that the movie itself was great as well. Top notch acting on Bill Murray's part as a midlife crisis struck washed up actor who goes over to Japan for a 2 million dollar contract to advertise a brand of whiskey, but also to sort out his life and his marriage; and where he meets a young woman still trying to find some sense of direction to her life, forging a bond of friendship. The plotline isn't too complex, but the setting is great, giving us a great look into Japanese culture, which results in some hilarious scenes which may not strike as strange to Japanese people themselves.
Anyways, even though it's not gory, action packed or orc infested ( ), this is a great movie that will appeal to people who prefer their movies with a little bit psychological soul-searching.

Anyone else who's seen it and would like to share some thoughts on it?

I've seen it and love it, specially the scenes where he is doing the commercials and the director gives a very long speech but the translator only says few words...

But it's very good film like you say... even if it's not orc infested...

I agree with Jorath. An excellent movie. Very entertaining despite the lack of action. I didn't know that Hollywood still were able to make real movies. It had my full attention every second it lasted which unfortunately most movies don't.

JAPAN!? Where!? I thought I just clicked on a thread about a movie that hasn't anything 'that' good in it!

I've gotta go see it - just as I've gotta go see The Last Samurai!

It got great reviews, but many people I've spoken to didn't like it.

I'll see it of course -- probably on DVD.

Willow, this last year was regarded as one of the better years in movie-making in a while. I think whatever your taste, Hollywood is competent to churn out several movies that will suit your palette.

Liked it. Liked it a lot. But really still thought it was a little overrated. Bill Murray was very good, and so was Scarlet Johannsen, but the whole thing together was just a little unfulfilling. I know thats sort of supposed to be the point - but it still elft me thinking I probably wouldn't watch it again. It didn't make me wildly enthusiastic, lets put it that way.

Sorry Timber, but Hollywood has the nasty habit of adding several scenes of sentimental flag waving. That may sell in the US, but perhaps not as much in teh rest of the world. However, I fully understand that Hollywood is an American bussiness. Usually the best movies, IMO, are the low budget ones, or the ones that are praised in the European film festivals.

I agree with Barry. From what I heard of it, I was expecting this movie would be special. It was good, but I probably wouldn't watch it more than a second time, if that.
