I don't think that any character can get high or maxed physical resistance, not even in ToB. (TOB SPOILERS, highlight to read: ***There's the HLA hardiness, which gives 50% I think, and that might be the only one.***)

But what's better, having the resistance for when you do get hit, or having low AC and THAC0 to ensure that you DON'T get hit?

I think there was a thread about this before not long ago. I tried doing a search but no luck, sorry Xen. I have a feeling it was in the TOB forum, have you tried doing a search?

To cut short, here's a list of every item in SoA that grants some sort of physical resistance:
 • Defender of Easthaven: 20% Crushing, Piercing & Slashing resistance.
 • JansenWear: 25% physical resistance across the board.
 • Yellow Dragon Scale Armor: 50% Piercing & Missile resistance.
 • Belt of Inertial Barrier: 25% Missile resistance.

Having the resistance high enough that you heal from the hit.

AC really doesn't cut it anymor after a while, so physical resistances are better in this case. Note: the enemies that can't hit you because of their crap thco or you great AC aren't worth mentioning anywayz.

Question Mark

I never bother with items; instead, create a cleric/mage and stack Armor of Faith into a Spell Sequencer. You'd be surprised how effective Aerie can be when armed with Crom Faeyr, Haste/Improved Haste, and 100% physical resistance to damage.
