Hey, im new to the forum but not to BG. What I'm trying to do right now is assembile my ultimate character and party. I'm almost done walking him through BG1 and TOSC and he will be imported and carried all the way thru ToB. I'm looking for any advice as I can hold my own but would like some experienced players ideas. Right now i have...(Keep in mind this is BG1)
Seifer LVL 8 Human Fighter NG Str 19 Dex 19 Con 19 Int 12 Wis 11 Cha 19 120 HP Large Swords **** Small Swords ** This character IS a power game character too. What im thinking of doing is kitting him to Kensai and lvling up to 24. He is going to be focused on bastard swords for dual-weilding foebane+5 and purifier+5. I also intend to give him points in dagger and short bow (keep reading). At lvl 24 I want to dual him to thief. This lets me use the purifer, short bow of gesen, and Grandmasters Armor. I know I'll have to take the HLA use any item but will my Kensai bonuses still apply for bows or slings? Does anyone have any advice on good daggers? Its important to note I have NO MODS; blame my crappy 56k. Also does anyone have good advice for party composition? I was thinking of Keldorn, Mazzy, Aerie, Nalia, and Valygar.

Thats quite late to dual... i dont have the XP table here but to get to level 20 fighter you need 3 000 000 xp, so 24 would be much higher... if you dont remove the xp cap you wont probably even get your kensai abilities back. And even if you do, youll probably get them too late in the game to enjoy it. I think kensais should be dualed at levels 9 or 12, maybe even 15 if you need another star, but i wouldnt recommend doing it later because for the most part of the game you will just be a plain thief, with poor melee abilities, who cant even wear armor.
Just my opinion though

13 is the optimum dual for ToB Kensais (extra 1/2 attack) but if you want to go to 24, go ahead. That way you'll at least get some warriors HLAs.

lol, I've already made my 'ultimate powergaming character', and hes a bit of a beast.
Rather than take the Kensai/Thief 24/28, I went for the Kensai/Mage 21/22. THACO doesnt increase after L20 or so anyhow, and I'm a happy fighter as long as I get critical strike. Also, dualling to a mage allows you to earn experience simply by learning spells, so you bomb up the levels Grand mastery in Katanas, and high dual weapon proficiency is quite l33t - make sure you have the tactics mod and install Kuriosan though, or this is worthless. Have fun with your powergaming character

I got a couple of the weimer mod with my 56k and it was fine. Those files aren't that big.

Where can you get these mods and what do they do? Are there any that add new NPC's, dialoge or anything other than "improved" enemies or outrageously powerful items?
My first full powergame play thru was a human dual classed lvl 15 beserker lvl 20 sumthin mage who was named, ironically enough, sephiroth. (get it? ) But as for mages, I know im going to offend nearly everyone in the forum but I think they suck, total cheese. It takes me almost twice as long to play a game with a pc mage compared to a pc fighter because while the fighter is at full effectiveness as long as he has hp, the mage is slower due to a limited number of spells. Plus if you lvl up enough youll have protections and offensive possibilities your enemies cant possiblly hope to counter. Cast spellstrike on Jon and laugh, yawn. Instead I lean towards a more "realistic character"...to me a character who has dedicated his whole life to the use of one weapon and sneaking up on someone to kill them doing 200 dmg MIGHT be possible. Going up agianst 34 fire giants with 4 con and a spell book is just not. And go ahead and riducule me for saying realistic and spellbook in the same post. Personally I think the fighter-thief dual class is the most effiecient single opponent killer in the game. Bone blade+4, Cutthroat+4, assasination, critical stike, kai, haste, and time trap....shudder. Allthough walking into room full of...say, drow, wearing elven chain+5 and casting pro. magic weapons is fun too. I am INDOMINATABLE!!!

AFAIK, even though you dual your kensai to thief (or mage or whatever) you'll still have the kensai's limitations when choosing your new weapon proficiencies, e.g. no bows, crossbows, darts, or slings. Once you get your thief HLA of Use any Item you'll be able to use them, of course, but you can never be proficient in them. I suspect that you'll get your kensai bonuses with these weapons, but don't take my word for it - try making one up with ShadowKeeper and see what happens on a test run!
As far as daggers go, the Boomerang dagger is excellent for throwing and is available quite early, Firetooth dagger is even better and is available in the Underdark. [ 03-27-2003, 10:17 PM: Message edited by: Desuma Malevois ]

LordSephiroth-
Yes, there are a couple, kind of. There is Tashia, which will add a female sorceress, Kelsey, which I believe adds a male one...also present are Solaufien (who's quite good, maybe a bit overpowered), and Valen (who gets very overpowered at the end). All are available at http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~weimer/bgate/ |

There is allot of cheesyniss with dual - multi classed characters, we are aware of that ![]() You want some nice add-on NPC's? Kelsey: Well balanced male Sorcerer mod, he come's with some nice bonusses (encounters, items), no powergaming with him though. Solaufein: He's great! I'm a fan of this mod, having a drow in your party kicks ass. He is a fighter/mage (multi-class) that will adept to your party when he joins (level wise and alignment wise), he is considerd a little bit powergaming but he also come's with a really really heavy battle (So I have heard), his neutral MR make's him an excellent wizard slayer and just a amazing tank. Only downside is that you get him pretty late in the game (chapter 6, though people tend to go to the Underdark right when they left the Play House these days). Tashia: Didn't use this mod, but it's a female Sorcerer, something like Kelsey I'm sure but... never really tested it. Valen: Want pure powergaming? Install her and feel the amazing power of a vampire, she is amazing when it come's to thieving and battle... her power to drain levels is considerd cheesy... and she can be real cheesy when you use her allot. Downside (yes there is one ![]() ![]() I'm gone...
