On a more serious note, I wonder sometimes about the "absolute power corrupts absolutely" saying. Using the Russian communists as an example, it could be that "absolute power irresistably attracts people who are corruptable". Look at how Stalin pushed aside Lenin... if that hadn't happened perhaps the USSR might have had a much different history. Lenin was a idealist... Stalin was after power, and he had the merciless drive to get it.

The trouble with Socialists is not that they don't have a noble ideal, but that they think that they can abolish human nature by fiat. The massive failure of communism shows this clearly. The problem is that too many people seek power without also attaining the wisdom to use that power correctly.
