Imagine that Ironworks is being patrolled by worlds police. I find this interesting and I am all for it if it can prevent crime against children.
LONDON (AP) - Police in Britain, Australia, Canada and the United States are planning joint patrols of Internet chat rooms in search of pedophiles, a senior British officer said Wednesday. Forces from the four countries hope to introduce a "24/7 police presence on the Internet," said Assistant Chief Const. Jim Gamble of the National Crime Squad. Speaking at the end of a three-day meeting involving the squad, the FBI, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Australian Federal Police, Gamble said officers in different countries would take turns to keep a round-the-clock watch on the Net. While the number of officers assigned to chat patrol is expected to be modest, the forces hope their program will have a deterrent effect. http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2...492238-ap.html [ 06-09-2004, 01:28 PM: Message edited by: pritchke ] |

Probably something that's been missing, a control on the negative sides of the internet. I think it could prevent some sick stuff from happening

Hm.. Makes sense. Does anyone suppose that they'll also play games like The Sims and Everquest, and Neverwinter Nights? And, if so, where do I sign up to get a job like that?

This is one thing that I think is long over due. It is about time they start looking at so called kiddie porn sites and start shuting them down. And yes the chat rooms need some looking after as well.
But never forget good education about the internet starts at home. ![]()

Yea... lets start monitoring all those hate mongering sites... line the National Organization for Women, the NAACP, Moveon.org, Rush Limbaugh's web site... gosh there's just too many to list.
Just trying to make a point about slippery slopes here ![]() IMO expunging child exploitation from the net is definitely a worthy cause, but don't give them a blank check to step on freedom of speech based on their narrow minded interpretation of what's appropriate. Quote:

Argh... the most oft-quoted quotable quote on IWF strikes again.
Wherever you "draw the line," I think it's perfectly fine to check out NAMBLA without starting down the slippery slope. Some things need policing -- and online kiddie-porn is certainly one of them. |

agreed... on both counts, but with the recurring talk of monitoring this and controlling that it benefits us all to use a critical eye when throwing out names of groups who should be added to the list. Frankly I don't agree with the KKK, Neo-Nazi's, OR Gay Bashers... but aside from incitement they have the right to their opinions.

obviously this is a good idea. But I mean they will never have enough police to patrol nearly enough of the web as would be liked, although I suppose its a start.
BUT, what a boring job! I mean, sitting watching chatrooms all day, not the most fun thing to be doing with yourself.
