I've just discovered Arrows of Dispelling. I'd always just ignored them before as I'd had other ways of getting rid of protections. In my last solo game I kept having to resort to what I consider cheesy tactics to kill mages and ammo takes up way too much room when playing solo.

However, my latest game has been slightly modded so that I got the excellent ammo belt available to buy (and a quick nip to watcher's keep means I have a potion case as well - invaluable for soloers).

In my ammo belt I now have just under 80 of those fabulous arrows. Since I'm playing as a solo Assassin they are especially potent when poisoned and in conjunction with arrows of biting. In the situations where a backstab isn't possible (like if I've just killed the mage's buddy), the mage gets up stoneskin and mirror image (or whatever). One shot removes those (and poisons him), 2 more shots that round (tuigan bow) with poisoned arrows of biting = Goodbye mage

Anyway, what things have you discovered that brought new joy to your life in Athkatla?

I think it's spells that have opened my eyes a little more. I never actually realized their full potential until I took the time to experiment with them and try out different combinations of spells. It's made me realize that a mage can be practically invincible and it is this class that is now, perhaps not surprisingly, one of my favourites to play.

Contigincy (s/p?) had me smiling, especially Chain Contingincy. Gotta love it. Your HP gets down to 10%, you quickly release Finger of Death, disintergrate and Stone to Flesh upon an enemy. Beutiful *sniff* .

my chaotic evil fighter that specialized in ranged weaponry had a blast killing hordes of Amnish Legionnaires and Coweled Enforcers with Arrows of Detonation (infinite supply, of course) nothing beats a rapid-fire flamethrower!!

also, using spells that i had overlooked and were used continually by my enemies is fulfilling. Protection from Normal Weapons, for instance, is quite a bit better than many other early-attained protection spells for mages (especially solo wild ones ) good 'ole Dispel Magic is an overlooked gem, too. as far as i know it's the only way to get rid of charm/confusion-type spells.

also, a really fun thing is (for evil guys only) to cast Protection from Evil 10' radius and then gate in a Pit Fiend in the middle of the marketplace. (or Council of Six building or the Most Noble Order of the Radiant Heart ) it makes fiery death for all around and no reputation loss, just sadistic satisfaction.

In my case it was dual weapons. Amazing. Hindo's hand in one hand and a long sword of Anwyaduvual (something like that) in another and my wizard slayer is pretty much invulnerable, especially when dualed as a thief with "use every item". It was very much the best fun ever obliterating Irenicus with no problems and vampires? What vampires?
