I know you are supposed to hang on to a rogue stone and the chicken gem, but are there any others I should keep? During one of my games I kept everything that looked valuable. Now I am selling everything. Just to be safe though I sell them all to the same dealer in case I need to buy them back later.

I think gems are just good to make money with BUT if a seller is willing to pay alot of gold DONT sell it, it might be usefull to make items or something

Apart from the Rogue Stone and the Beljuril Gem, you should also keep a Diamant. It will be necessary to get a cool horn...

If you have ToB installed and go through Watchers Keep before finishing SoA, you might want to keep some of all of the expensive gems - they'll be used to upgrade items

(BIG TOB SPOILER!!!!!!!)Aviendha, to answer ur question, just go to Cespenar, and if you have any items that can be upgraded, he'll tell you. And its good to have some high valuable gems when talking to him. Here is the gem list- Star Saphires, rouge stones, diamonds, rubies, emeralds, saphires, kings tears, nymph tears. Thats the list from the manual. Have fun!!

rubies don't exist in the game; only ruby rings. and a note on Cespenar: he's really expensive. i mean, REALLY. he charges 40000 GP for one particular item, and just about the cheapest he goes is 10000. (not that gold matters at this point)

minor spoiler, but you'll appreciate it, trust me.

in the Docks district, there is a Silver Horn of Valhalla is a chest on the second floor of the building next to the fish seller. with a diamond, then a beljuril gem, (both can be found in the Umar Hills) Maheer the Weaponsmith in Waukeen's Promenade can upgrade the Horn to Bronze, and then Iron. I only found out about this around the third time through the game.
