It's CTRL-A time again

At the Underdark exit, there's that fight between elves and Drow ...
Did anyone else think this fight is a little unbalanced ?
I mean .. if you dont intervene, the elves are helpless, even 1 drow-warrior could take them all with his High magic-resistance and great AC.
I dont know anything about elves and drow, but shouldnt elves be a bit more of a challenge to the drow ??

Droe society is a lot harder. All childrens are sent to military school, and the week all die. In game therm, the lowest level a drow can be is level 2.

They always are full of infighting and live in a world a lot more dangerous and have more equipement. They also had the effect of surprise. The elves thought the dragon was protecting the place and never thought an army was coming.

An individual Drow is probably a lot stronger, meaner and better adept at surviving and either fighting or spellcasting than your average individual surface Elf, for the reasons Luvian pointed out. However, the differences can never be so big that one Drow warrior can vanquish a group of five or six surfacers, like it happens in that battle sometimes. It's just a question of how the Drow and those surface Elves are implemented in the game. The Drow are quite strong because they have to provide a reasonable challenge for your party, which consists of very high-level characters. The surface Elves are probably implemented a bit more 'realisticly', meaning they're of lower level with less HPs, higher THAC0 and AC, etc.

as for experience the drow and elves should be even.the surface elves just take longer to attain their levels because they live in a world where you don't have the back stabbing like in the under dark.but they live about twice as long as the drow,so they have the time to gain levels.

I disagree. Not all surface elves have levels in a class. Most of them are just regular people, while every single drow is at least level 2 in a class.

Also, maybe surface elves live longer, but those aged elves are not foot soldiers, they would be the officier, while the young one are the lowest ranked fighter. For the drows, every lowly soldiers is deadly. It is simple, if they can't fight for their life everyday, then they die. In the underdark, there is no harmless monsters.
