I am just wondering if you can be a member of the thiefs guild and the Militia at the same time. I am also thinking about becomeing a Paladin is that possible while being a member a thiefs guild.

Yes, you can be both. It is actually easier to be a Paladin/thief because the guards will not stop you from entering people's house, although the owner might object to it.

In the world of Gothic, this is possible. Seriously. This is not your average AD&D game.

I wonder how a Paladin would rationalize being a thief? One seems to contradict the other profession.

Yeh. So it'd probably be a thief being a paladin rather than a paladin being a thief
