I am just wondering if you can be a member of the thiefs guild and the Militia at the same time. I am also thinking about becomeing a Paladin is that possible while being a member a thiefs guild.

Yes, you can be both. It is actually easier to be a Paladin/thief because the guards will not stop you from entering people's house, although the owner might object to it. :D

In the world of Gothic, this is possible. Seriously. This is not your average AD&D game.

I wonder how a Paladin would rationalize being a thief? One seems to contradict the other profession.

Yeh. So it'd probably be a thief being a paladin rather than a paladin being a thief ;)
