I reloaded Gothic 2 to replay it, but have come up against a problem. I'm using an ATI Radeon 8500LE, with Catalyst 4.3 (now 4.4) drivers. I've heard that there was a problem running the game with anything over the 4.1 drivers, and can't get the game to load properly.

The thing is, I've tried rolling back to the 4.1 drivers, and it still won't work. Some of the opening movies run fine, but getting into the game (by randomly clicking on the black menu screen) gives me audio only, with a black screen and no cursor. Unfortunately, I can't view the Jowood forums to properly search for help on this subject.

Has anyone here run into this problem? If so, what can I do to play the game?!

Thanks for any and all help you can provide.

Regards,
Michael

According to someone who posted in JoWooD forum, he downloaded the uninstall tool from ATI and remove all traces of the new driver and then re-install catalyst v4.1. After that, He manage to get system running without a hitch. Perhaps you should give it a try.

The ATI uninstaller did the trick. Thanks for the assistance!

good to hear it!
i was gonna suggest going back to the 3.10's. they are pretty much rock-solid for everything out now, at least for my system.
