very dumb noob question

I have had Morrowind a long time, but never really got into it, partly because I found the faces soooo ugly. But with the patches I have downloaded, that's better.

So I set out to play a bit and now have a really dumb question....

How do I use a bow and arrow?

I have equipped the bow and it shows in my hand when I ready my weapon. But when I click to use it, nothing happens. Obvious question: do I have arrows? Yes, I do. I bought some. I had Iron arrows and then thought maybe they weren't compatible with my bow, so I sold them and bought Steel arrows. I still can't shoot them. I just stand there holding the bow, not firing. Given that I planne don being something of an archer, this doesn't thrill me....

I tried equiping the arrows, but that did not meet with success either. I tried putting the arrows on top of my bow. Still nothing.

So.... How do I use a bow and arrow?

You did right in equipping the arrows, I can't think what could be going wrong. If you have a bow and arrow(s) equipped, you should be able to fire the bow in the same way that you'd use a melee weapon... So sorry, but it looks like a technical issue, maybe a bug? Somebody around here should know

Do you get any sort of animation when you 'click' to attack?
Have you tried holding the button down longer?
Can you attack with other weapons?

I can attack normally with my dagger.

I get no animations with the bow, no matter how long or short I hold down the button. I just hold it in front of me and after a minute or two start to move it a bit in what I assume to be the "I'm bored/ no input" animation that you get when you stand around doing nothing for too long.

Ah wll, thanks anyways. Guess I'll have to be a melee type.

Are you equipping the arrows the same way you'd read a book? ie. Drag and drop to your character's image on the inventory screen? They won't work if you drag n drop to the bow icon.

Don't feel bad. IIRC, i had some trouble figuring this out...

Are you using a bow or a crossbow?

If you're using a crossbow, you need bolts (aka quarrels), not arrows.

Slow to respond, sorry. Been away a while.

Using just a regular bow (chitin?)

The only mods are better bodies and World of Faces (or something like that).

Not sure the version.

Well, Sever has already answered your question. To equip arrows and crossbow bolts you simply drag them and drop them at your character in the inventory screen.

I bet many players have spent some time before figuring this one out.
