heheheehe, u probably thinks its nothing but it took me trial and error 2 hours! (which is probably not fair and square)

I would like ppl to see what I did, and comment on teh good bits and what I could have done better so I can IMPROVE! afterall I am a newbie

I am a level 12 mage... so its hard right?

This is what I did (don't laugh):

************** spoiler for other newbies *************************

Umbra is East of Suran, but travel south first and then east followed by NW to get to him... looks a bit like a Samurai warrior in his full Orc Plate and his Umbra sword...

SAVE GAME!

I am a mage with some 70HP so Umbra would crush me in 3 blows if not 2. he also runs just as fast as me (which is pretty fast as I am a stead).

Here is what I did:

--- summon fire annorach who gets killed very quickly but does the pretty decent fireball a few times

--- now be fair and talk to Umbra to initiate the attack

---have the secret weapon which is a shortsword of paralysis (can't remmeber name but was given earlier on in a quest? Very cheap with only 50 charges, but paralyzes Umbra for 5 secs per hit (needed to brush up on Shortsword skills to at least 30? I was on 32)

--- run behind your summon very quickly and keep running as Fire Anorach is about to do its multiple fireballs

--- this draws fire away from me and I now SAVE THE GAME!!!!!!!!

--- this is the key, get Umbra damaged and NOT attacking u

--- Now use the shortsword to go up and get him again before he kills the summon

--- Use ABSORB health spell (need to be have Mysticism 40), to drain HP to u...
can do upto 50HP drain added to urself

--- Have an extra Summon Scroll ready if ur Summon dies... it is vital to always have someone else with high HP to run around of.

--- I failed about 9 times or something, each time I either got slaughtered in 2 seconds or got Umbra down to a few HP before died. This time I just got lucky I guess

--- Key is not to get him to touch u need Absorb health and some kind of Paralysis and Save in battle often

--- I haven't tried legging it to the guards yet

HOPE that wasn't a lot of rubbish, but IW is friendly and I am a newbie

Avy

Umbra is name of his sword which soultraps on hit for 60 secs and does max dmg of 50.

P.S. look for an Adamatine Claymore (can't remember where from but is priced at 21,000 I think and dishes out more than Umbra?) That was not as hard to get from a less talented fighter in Vivec.

Ohh missed a minor detail on me:

I had half Ebony and half Glass Armour giving an AC of 32 for my skills.

I stole these from Vivec and bought some other Imperial chain stuff myself.

This probably explains why it took 3 blows at full health rather than 1

So wear something nice when u face the Umbra like a mini-skirt

no such thing as an adamantium claymore. good enough tactic, since it worked. i've never gone after umbra though, so i dont know. i think some of the tribunal guys are pretty tough though, so i can imagine. the best way i've heard is to get up high and then spear him, or shoot him while he cant reach you. i found, in tribunal, that if your agility is high you can bunny hop straight up out of their range and then just strike them as you come down.

Indeed, there is. Behold, the adamantium claymore in all its splendor!

See that sword with the really long blade? That's a claymore.

nano, where in the original game, without tribunal, is he going to find an adamantium ANYTHING? whatever he found, if its on the mainland, shouldnt be adamantium unless he loaded a mod.

@above post: Original game without Morrowind eh? lol

You can get adamantium armor through an official plugin, that's free to download, or if he has Tribunal as I suspect, just go to Mournhold and lift one..erm...I mean buy one.

---

First time I killed Umbra was when I was a little lower level, 9 I think. I didn't even know how tough he was till I swatted him. I somehow barely managed to make it back into Suran and clambered atop a building with a levitation potion I think and used up all my arrows and throwing stars on him. Started casting spells, but I ran out of mana and then out of Restore Magicka potions. Luckily I had a fistful of gems (the ones that restore magicka--emeralds or rubies, can't remember which now) and started eating them because I had a good bit of alchemy skills and knew what they did. Finally killed him after a loooong time. Craziest battle ever.

Yeah, I personally think Umbra is WAY tougher than most of the others, including the clown who has Chrysamere [though I may be thinking of the guy with the lords mail-- which one is 'under' ebonhart?].

The 'Her Hand' ordinators were as tough or tougher, as are the Gods, of course, but other than that, can't think of any much worse than Umbra.

Never occured to me to use a jinkblade, though, and for some reson jumping/flying above him didn't seem fair, since he wanted to die in a fair fight. I did summon a golden saint once, he killed it awfully fast, though.

So CONGRATS Avie, well done!

Thats what it is called!!!

Drow (sorry still stuck in D&D) Jinkblade

My tactic has always been to stun/paralyze opponents ASAP in any battle.. then u can save and think about what to do next

LEVITATION AND NUKES are not for newbies and definitely not fair!
