Hi there!

My mage just leveled up to 9th level. I can max her Intelligence to get Powercast. Now I am on the way back from Cierdans tomb to Arnika and after that I want to clear the Arnika-Trynton-Road and the Retro Dungeon before entering Trynton. I know there is a Fountain in Trynton which raises Intelligence of all party members by +5. I want to know if it is worth to wait maxing INT (and raise speed instead)? When I would not wait maxing INT I think, I would waiste the +5 of the Fountain. But a real good development of my mage will require Powercast ASAP, and it´s a long way I have to go to stand in front of the fountain. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My Samurai is wielding Bloodlust and I´m not sure if he gets Lightning Strike with this weapon. Since I have equipped it, I get instant kills like before, but i don´t got a lightning strike.

BTW: My Ranger used a bullwhip and a round shield before visiting Cierdans tomb. Now he uses Demonsbane and a Hammer (and Demonsting of course). Not that it´s very important, but why is he not able to equip Bullwhip and Hammer?

Hi,

In answer to your questions...
you can get to the fountain without a lot of fighting, but if you really don't want to go there now, max out INT...
It's a 5 pnt boost but it's not worth delaying powercast for...
I always plan Trynton early on, so I get full benefits.

You can't equip bullwhip and hammer because they have different attack ranges!

Your ranger is best at bows and crossbows. I don't even give him a melee weapon at all (let him shoot even in close range). But if you do, don't let him double wield. It's a waste to let him train double wield and mace&flail.

I've gotten lightning strikes with bloodlust. Very annoying. Both the besrerk attack mode and the lightning attack seem to decrease you chance to hit. So a lightning strike with bloodlust uses up lots of stamina, but very rarely hits more than once (usually not all all, at least in expert).

Thanks for the quick response.

I´ll max INT and get powercast with my mage. The bishop will be enviously.

My ranger allways uses his bow, but my rogue uses diamond epee and a poingard, so nobody else wants to use demonsbane and the hammer. (Cause my Monk uses martial arts) I don´t want to sell them, so my ranger gets them, even if he is not planned to use them often.

Using Demonsbane is ok. But nuless you plan to give him diamond eyes later, don't use the hammer. Use a shield instead. Wielding a second weapon will reduce your ability with your primary one (unless dual wield is at 100).

Indeed I plan to give him the Estoc-de-olivia in combination with diamond eyes.

If you don't use a second weapon, your Dual skill can't get to 100. So many people dislike dual wielding, and it's primarily because they don't do it right from the start. If you keep on dualling the whole time, you'll almost always be ahead on swings by dualling. The exceptions are when you hit a threshold value in weapon or close before dual.
Especially with Diamond Eyes for damage and Stiletto for IK's, dual wielding can improve your combat efficiency for most of the game.
The reduction in ability starts being unimportant as soon as you go over 50 in any two of Close, the weapon, or Dual; and negligible once all three are over 60.

Edit: (assuming you've been putting any points into Dex to help your combat ability...)

Should I raise Powercast on future levelups? Until now my mage focused on Wizardry and Fire Magic (+3 each levelup) and she distributed the other 3 points within the other magic realms.

Perhaps I could now raise Wizardry, fire magic and powercast +3? But I think powercast will raise more quickly through practice than the other realms, cause it is used more often than a single realm.

It totally depends on how fast you want the skill to rise. Plus 3 per level up into powercast is better than into the realm skills since in my experience realm skills rise faster.

I've had a lot of success getting lightning strikes with either katana or bloodlust by keeping my samurai's weight load under 70 and only equipping light, minimal, or special weight class armor. Currently I'm running a party where the samurai is going for powercast (3 int per level) and doing 1,1, and 1 in dex speed senses. This character is level 11 now and gets lightning strikes about on in ten combat rounds (about one in twenty attacks). But I agree with Wereboar, that even with Sword skill at 85+, close combat at 50+, strength 50, dex 75, my to hit chance is low, particularly on the lightning strikes where I often whiff on all six strikes. With this low strength character, however, I still do more damage with bloodlust per round than I would with any other currently available sword, and with my focus on magic, I'm not using any ranged weapon anyway (plus it helps keep the load down)
