Also use the Almsli Intervention spell when you are in the Vivec area. At least that will get you to the Temple canton so you can then connect to the nearby cantons.
Now this is another fun way: if you haven't already, get a constant effect Restore Health ring or whatever; get your acrobatics to a very high amount. Now just jump from one the very top to the bottom landings of a canton. Gets you down there really quick OR try jumpiing from one canton to a nearby canton. In addition, get a constant levitate item or just a levitate spell. Flying around Vivec helps out alot too. Sure beats running around in Vivec. |

Yes I agree with the advice to get yourself some levitation item to help you get around Vivec. The ferry guys are also helpful. It is a very frustrating place. I'd also advise that, for all areas really, go around to all your quest-giving places (guild, houses etc) and get lots of quests to do at one time. There's no time limit on the vast majority, and the inconvenience of some places to get to means the best way to go is to have 3 or 4 errands to run in any one place, instead of going to one reason and then having to come back soon after for another reason.

Hokay, to enchant an item you need:
>A charged soulgem: the harder something is to kill, the bigger soul gem you need to catch it. To make a constant effect item, you need a minumum of a grand sould gem with the soul of a 'golden saint' or ascended sleeper. [In order to charge an empty gem, you need the 'soultrap' spell, a scroll with the spell, or the soul drinker dagger: a very nice item the balmora mage's guild will award you for some nasty work.] >The item to be enchanted: many items have too low a 'value' to hold a useful spell. In general, the more it costs, the more it holds. Exquiste amulets, belts, etc. hold more potential than 'common' items, Daedric armor and wepons hold more than steel, etc. Your spell cannot exceed this value. Some pre-enchanted items [like my favorite boots] in game seem to have a MUCH higher value than they should: that's part of the fun, makes 'em worth having. >Quite a bit of gold, if you are hiring it done. The more they like you, the less it costs. You can do it yourself if your enchant skill is high enough. [There is a 'trick' here, though: first sell the enchanter something cheap. This allows them to have more money than the pre-set/re-set level they usually have. After your item has been enchanted, the money you pay will appear in their inventory, and they will buy anything other than alchemical related items. This is about the only way to successfully sell higher level soul gems, as well as most glass and daedric items.] Now go to one of the enchanters, carrying your item and your charged gem. Open the dialog menu, and sell something. Open it again and select 'enchant' [its one of the options, along with persausion and barter]. Open the menu, select the item you want to enchant, and the soul you want to place in it. Add in the effect you want to give the item, select an appropriate power level, the 'means' of discharge ['when strikes', for most wepons, 'when used' for clothing items, etc.]and the duration it will run for. Click 'buy', and you are done. ALWAYS SAVE before talking to the enchanter: you may need to fine tune the item, and remember-- you want the items you'll be selling TO the enchanter [post enchantment] near to hand: their gold will reset to the pre-set at midnight, so you don't want to have to run around gathering things up. A few important details: >The bigger the gem, the more 'manna' the item will have, and the more times you can use it before it runs out and needs to be left alone to re-charge. >You need to know at least the basics of a spell before you can place it in an item. The 'boost attribute' spell will allow you to choose any [or all!] attribute[s] to be boosted, for instance, but you still can't add 'water breathing' at ANY level until you know the spell. >Exquisite items are very handy: keep any exquisites you find unless you REALLY need the money: my best ever item was an exquiste amulet charged with a golden saint soul that cast bound longbow, bound currias, and bound long sword as constant effect items. Made it possible to travel very light, and the weapons and armor could be repaired just by taking the amulet off and putting it back on. I could have added bound dagger, but I already had soul drinker. I think I had bound gloves on the first one of these I made, but after getting a certain pair of very cool gloves, I made a new amulet without them... >Save soul gems: though the lower level ones are easy to come by, having a good stock of gems when you get the soul drinker means your money problems are over forever-- a short hunting trip with a pocket full of soul gems is VERY financially rewarding. >With a halfway decent soul and an exquiste belt, you can make a healing item that will practically never run out: that was my second best enchantment-- I call it the 'jock strap of good health', as I figure if its got a pouch [as exquiste belts appear to], its not a belt, its a jock... >Prior to getting sick [if ya don't want to know, don't ask: its a REAL spoiler], my 'cure disease, poison and blight' amulet was my favorite. Afterwards, it wasn't worth carrying... >Only 'equipable' items can be enchanted: clothing, jewelry, armor, weapons. The 'select item to enchant' box will only display enchantables. Once enchanted, an item can't be re-enchanted: thats why its important to save. Alchemy supplies like diamonds and emeralds can't be enchanted... >IMHO, grand gems should only be used for saints and ascendeds: constant effect items are REALLY COOL, and its a pity to waste a grand gem on a lower creature. >One of the side quests [think it's a side quest] will get you Azura's Star, a soul gem that makes all others obsolete: when you use it to enchant an item, it returns [empty] to your inventory. When/if you get it, don't be tempted to sell it... >Some critter's souls will migrate into a higher gem than they need: ogrim, for instance, will occupy an empty grand gem even if you also have an empty greater on hand: sadly, they aren't that strong a soul, even when in a grand gem. Nothing you can do about it, other than being very careful what you soul trap when carrying an empty grand gem. My final advice: just get a couple of soul gems charged, save your game, and practice: the enchantment menu is a little un-handy, but once you figure out how the relative values, casting costs, charges, etc. work, its a peice of cake. One suggestion for enchanting. Many people might boo this idea- one of the first things I made was an amulet of +100 inteligence. Good for enchanting bonuses.
