Has anybody experienced the frustration of their game refusing to load? If so, what did you do to correct it? My operating system is Windows 98SE and my computer components are greater than their Recommended list. On Sunday I could play the game. On Monday it kept giving me various reasons why it would not/could not load. One of them being the infamous "Morrowind has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down." Another time it was "Cannot find the 0 component," and somthing about a missing "bitmap." So I uninstalled, scanned my disk, defragged my harddrive. Reinstalled and got the message "Cannot find the Bethesda movie."

Now why would it play one day and not the next? I have tried playing with all tasks shut down except Explorer. I have tried playing with both Explorer and Systam up. Does the Game Manual indicate what tasks need to be running for the game to run besides Explorer? Thanks.

On the computer that I play morrowind I'm running the same system w/98se with an ATI 8500 3D video card and before I put in all the latest patches I would sometimes have this same problem, the only way to get ride of the problem is to hit the reset button on the computer or unplug and plug back in the wall while the computer is on then allow it to reboot and reset all drives then reinstall the patches even if you already have them installed this cleared up the problem for me.

GOOD LUCK.

So, CB, from your experience, do you think when I do a re-install, after I patch it then go ahead and reboot? It seems to me that there is a compatibility issue between Bethesda's gaming software and Microsoft software. Someone on another forum was wondering if it might be a dreaded Windows Registry problem that Evil Bill Gates insists is never Microsoft's problem.
By the way, thanks for your reply.

Yes you may be right, I got the first collectors Edition in Virginia by same day delivery from Bethesda softworks on May 2nd, 2002 and that same afternoon I contacted then about the bug and they gave me the imformation I gave you about reboot the computer and that they would see to this problem and patch the game. The first patch gave mention to this problem and that it happened only in windows 98se The patch fixed this for me I would think it should help you, I also had this same problem with The first Baldur's Gate before they made the first patch some day I'm going to shake the Hand of Bill Gates for his Windows Program then Kick him in the butt once for the Bugs in windows HA HA.

LOL! But you only want to kick him once??? Anyway, I went to Bethesda software and their frequently asked questions helped me to determine that my installation was corrupted. So we'll see. I am beginning to regret that I bought Tribunal to go along with Morrowind.

I also have Tribunal and have not had any problems with it but I put all the patches in the game a long time before tribunal came out then added Tribunal and it contained yet another patch within it that fixed something totaly different than the not wanting to load problem. By the way I reloaded and unloaded four times before it finally worked properly the first day and then patched it with three different patches if I remember over the past year up until Tribunal came out.
I think there is another new patch that come out after Tribunal, I'm going to check Bethesdas site and see. I'll be back shortly!

Hi I'm back and it looks like I only patched it twice befor Tribunal and then once after tribunal, here is the link to the latest patch
http://www.bethsoft.com/downloads/pa..._v1.4.1313.exe
this is for you if you dont already have it.

After all this if you are still having problems Then try to unload Tribunal and then add this patch. http://www.bethsoft.com/downloads/pa..._v1.2.0722.exe
Then load Tribunal and start a new game this should clear up your game.
DO NOT PUT THIS PATCH ON TOP OF TRIBUNAL or you will have real problems.
After you put Tribunal back in use the first link for v1.2.0722.exe patch

Thanks again, CB. I reinstalled Morrowind and Tribunal. I patched Tribunal and then I rebooted. Before I go to bed tonight I am going to try to start over again. If this doesn't work I'll do what you suggested and reinstall Morrowind and patch that and then reinstall Tribunal and patch that.
