As Joram Shadowstalker scanned the crowd he knew it was going to be a good day. There were a lot of nobles in attendance, and that would mean a lot of fat purses. My smiled as an exceptionally good mark strolled by him casually, completely unaware of Joram hiding in the shadows a few feet away. "Yes, today was going to be a good day indeed." Joram thought to himself, and he set about removing the fat purse from the noble as he walked by. With a deft twist of his wrist Joram snagged the purse as the noble kept on walking oblivious to the theft. Joram quickly stashed the purse inside one of his inner pockets as he continued to scan the crowd. The market was especially crowded today as the whole city was preparing for the king's wedding. Joram was preparing for something else. he had come to town on a mission. To round up a group and rob the king of his bridal gifts. This would be his retirement score. He had spent the past 20 years of his life becoming one of world's best rouges. He was 25 and already ready to call it quits. It was after all a fairly dangerous profession, but not one without its rewards. He had stashed away his fortune and the fruit of his lifes labors, and all he would need is this last job and then he would be able to get out the theiving profession forever, and live the good life owning a tavern is paradise springs on the southernmost coast of this continent. But this job would not be easy. He would need a good group of theives to hell him pull this off. With that thought Joram headed off through the crowd, picking an occasional purse and looking for anyone that might be another potential theif willing to work with him on this job.

OOC: OK this is my first RP thread. And i think that pretty much explains what it is about. A theif looking for other theives to help him on his one last job before he retires. This thread is open to all that are familiar with ad&d second addition rules, since those are the rules i would like this thread to abide by. I am looking not only for people to play fellow theives, but also people to play the guards and the head of the guards and basically people trying to stop joram. also a bounty hunter that comes from out of town looking for him could be a cool addition to the thread as well. please feel free to join in. NO UBERING EITHER!!!! THIS MEANS YOU!!!! Ok with that said enjoy.

Peps made his way gracefully through the crowd, smiling to people he recognized and now and again he would remove a fat purse from a totally unexpecting person with a swift move with his little pocket knife.
It was hardly noticable if you compared it to the short sword he had in his belt.
He was wearing a blue tunic with a silver chain-mail underneath which was not visible for the eyes of others. He also wore a great gold chain around his neck, fake of course, to distract the gazes of nosy persons from his hands.
This was going to be a most profitable day.

OOC: Peps
human
Lawful neutral
swashbuckler
carries short sword and his pocket dagger.
he is very short for a human, almost a head shorter than the ordinary man. He has a great deal of race, almost like an assasin, but he specified in the arts of the sword and not so much in the arts of thieving.
He is in the same place as you Azrael
Would you like more stats?

As Joram walks his eyes continually scan the crowd, picking up all the minute details and storing them away in his memory. Who each noble talked to, how many guards they had with them, What size their purse was. All his years of theiving had taught Joram well. Joram picked up a smaller fellow walking through the crowd, and Joram could tell by his eyes that he wasnt interested in shopping. After watching him quickly cut a purse, Joram decided that this might be just the type of rogue Joram was looking for. Joram noticed he wasnt wearing the telltale red bandana of the local theives guild, so Joram decided that this one might be worth recruiting. Joram watches him until he sees the diminutive figure dart down an alley. Joram follows him hoping to strike up a conversation. When he turns down the alley he sees that the theif was apparently waiting for him. "You're very quick with that dagger." Joram states taking a very nonhostile stance, with his arms folded in front of him leaning against the wall. "If you are available I might have a proposition for ye." Joram states as he smiles at his fellow theif.

OOC: Im trying to add another element to the story. IF the local theives guild finds out about what joram is trying to do they will not be happy about him trying to move in on their turf. So joram really hopes to avoid them as well. I'm trying to make it so he has pretty much everyone looking for him, once the story is developed. It should be a ton of fun.
Welcome Peps!!!!! glad to have you aboard.

SecretMaster the Thief, Pilferer, Scouter, Assassin, and Disguiser.
Profile:
Class- Masked Thief
Chaotic Good
5'5
Originally had the best/ one of the most wanted thieving outfits available, The Secret. He now keeps it for when most dangerous missions are needed, but keeps the mask, for no one, not even his closest friends have seen his face (only his parents).
Weapons/Armor
Disguised Studded Shadow armor +2 (looks like a normal leather armor)
Normal Constuction gloves.
Mask of the Secret- One of the most prized theiving masks, it gives the wearer infravision, can cast detect traps, and true sight. (Can cast disguise face)
Regular Boots.
Short Sword
SecretMaster has been in the thieving business for 15 years now. At the age of 8, he started thieving. Now, he can disarm pratically any alarm, trap, crusher, anything that has some sort of opening. Can run a mile in 4 minutes, making him very fast to run, and can easily pilfer a purse just by walking by them.

SecretMaster scans the crowd looking for anything good. "Hmm, jewelry dealer, gem dealer, nobles, food," He mutters to himself. "Doesn't anyone have any good things today?" He continues walking around. "Bingo!" and he spots where all the nobles are. "All around antiques and fancy looking suff. My guess, they have lots of goodies." He continues." Ooh, who do we have here? 2 Thieves, better test em, see if they notice me." He walks up to them briskly, acting like a tough ruffian, and before he does, he rips some clothing a bit, and puts on some makeup looking like scares and bruises. He goes. "Well now, who do we have here. Better not mess with me, or you'll be pounded so fast, that I'd be like Drizzt on Caffine when he see's a gnoll!" He then Joram, and walks to a corner, eyeing them.

Joram smiles at the rough looking fellow not unfolding his hands from his chest, and still looking completely. "Is that so?" Joram asks in a joking tone. "Well in that case here I'll give you anything you want." Joram says punctuated with a hearty laugh at the end. "and who might you be to make such threat?" Joram asks.

Joram smiles and says "yes, I saw you applying it, not bad though especially for quick work. So are you a member of the local theives guild 'the hidden dragons' or are you self employed?" Joram asks as he follows the fellow theives.

As the three "friends" get to know one another, a low murmur of "ooohs and aaaahs" followed by clapping attract their attention.

They see a section of the crowd congregating around something of interest. As they watch, a sword flies into the air, spinning end over end. Two daggers follow the sword and the cycle repeats itself.
They move through the crowd, gathering a coin purse here and there on thier way.

They soon reach a spot that offers a view of what the crowd is watching. A halfling is performing an impromptu juggling act to draw the crowd's attention. A few of the onlookers flip coins appreciatevily into a cap on the ground in front of the juggler.

As they watch, the blades are sent spinning faster and the pattern becomes increasingly complex. The halfling begins catching the blades behind his back, between his legs, and other seemingly impossible angles. He finally builds to the climatic finish. He sends the sword spinning extremely high. He then grabs the two daggers and sheaths them both. As the sword comes down, the halfling appears to misjudge its flight and steps directly beneath the blade. At the last moment, he bends forward in a formal bow. One hand sweeps out to acknowledge the crowd as the other reaches behind his exposed back to catch the hilt of the sword. The crowd applauds loudly in approval and coins rain into his cap. The juggler then brings the sword around and holds the blade up to his face as he turns to in all four directions to give each part of the crowd a formal salute.

He then gathers his cap full of coins and thanks the crowd for their kindness before disappearing into the throng.

The three thieves move around to see if they can spot him when their attention is drawn to yet another commotion several feet away. They look to see the halfling again, only this time he is being pursued by a rather large man screaming at him.

"Thief! Cutpurse! Come back here! GUARDS!"

The man manages to tackle the halfling as he tries to escape. A brief struggle ensues and the "mark" stands up, holding the thief by the back of his neck in one hand and his recovered coin purse in the other.

"So, you thought you could steal my hard earned coins, did you? You little miscreant, be thankful that I don't give you the thrashing you deserve, but be warned, if I see you anywhere near me or any of my friends again, you will taste my blade." The large man lowers his coin purse to the hilt of his sword to emphasize his point.

"Please sir, forgive me. I only sought money to feed my starving children".

"Quiet fool! You're hardly more than a child yourself. Save your pity-story. You don't fool me"

"No sir. No sir. I don't. I see that. You are far too wise to fall for street tricks. I beg a thousand pardons for my misjudgement".

Just then, a town guard shows up and asks what the problem is. The man (an adventuring fighter) is feeling a bit full of himself and says "No problem at all now. The situation has been handled".

He gives the halfling one last shake for good measure then kicks him in the behind as he drops him.

"Go on you. GIT! And don't let me catch you back here again".

The three follow curiously as the halfling quickly darts into a nearby alley. They find him there, rubbing his sore backside.

"Well, that didn't go to well, did it?" Joram asks.
"What?" replies the halfling. "Who are you? What do you want?"
"Relax", says Joram, "We're not after your belongings, although it doesn't appear they would be hard to take, given your skill at picking pockets".
"Is that so?" the halfling says, with a bit of a smirk on his face.
"I would say it is. You nearly got beaten to death AND thrown in jail a moment ago. What happened anyway? You're obviously good with your hands. How could you bungle your attempt at that mans purse so badly".

A grin slowly plays across the halflings face. He reaches into a pocket and pulls something out.

"That's because I wasn't after the mans coins....I was after this magical ring he was wearing. By allowing him to "catch" me, it will be many hours before he discovers the real theft...and like as not, he will think that it just fell off during our "scuffle". It's called misdirection, my good man, and I assure you I am quite good at it."

"By the way, my name is Keporith...Keporith Quickfingers."

Keporiths stats:

STR: 14
DEX: 19
CON: 12
INT: 13
WIS: 11
CHA: 14

Keporith's equipment:

Short sword, +2. It can detect gems, minerals and (most importantly) magic in a 10' radius.
Dagger, Longtooth +2
Ring of Invisibility/Inaudibility
Girdle of Stone Giant Strength
Leather armor +1

(and now)
Ring of Protection +2

Keporith keeps his Girdle of Strength underneath his armor. He wears it continuously and has learn to "control" his strength. This means that he usually "acts" as if he only has a strength of 14. He will use his full strength only when necessary (sorta like Spiderman when he is just Peter Parker).
