I am in chapter 3 on the fifth level of watchers keep trying to beat the guardians of the third seal (the seal where 6 guys appear, a hive mother, a six armed snake thing, three tie flings, and some kind of siren or undead woman) unfortunetly I am getting smacked around really bad and half my guys get killed in nothing flat, does anyone have any stratagies for beating these baddies??? I am almost ready to go to chapter 4 and not come back untill after the underdark... Please help!

Hehe, that can be a challenging fight for sure.

Here's what I suggest:

-Use buffs! Lots of them! And don't skimp on the resist spells. Some that I regularly use in tough situations:

Protection From Magical Energy
Protection From Energy
Death Ward (this is a must - it will protect you against instant death attacks)
Defensive Harmony
Protection From Magical Weapons
Resist Fear
any number of spell protections such as Spell Trap, Immunity from Magic, etc.

-Summon creatures - lots of them

I'd recommend higher level summons, such as Planetars, or the high level cleric ability(spell) Elemental Summons. Mordenkainen's Sword is also a good choice.

-Equip the Shield of Balduran if you have it (it's great against that hive mother). Equip any other items that offer resistance bonuses. Also, the Cloak of Reflection is a good item for this battle. Put the shield and the Cloak on two of your melee characters.

You'll probably want to take care of the Hive Mother relatively quickly - if you've got the Shield of Balduran and/or Cloak of Reflection send whoever has it/them after her, and try and let your summoned creatures distract the other monsters. You might want to let your summoned swords deal with Y'tossi (the snake thing/marileth if I remember right) because in order to hit her, you need a +5 weapon. It helps to position your summoned creatures near the targets you're going to want them to attack (before actually spawning them).

The last time I fought this battle was quite awhile ago, but I do remember that it took me several attempts before I won. I don't know what level your characters are currently, but if you get too frustrated, there's no harm in waiting until later.

thanks for the advice!
I was finaly able to kill the little jerks

unfortunetly now I have another question

I have two saved games now, one where I kill domogorgon and one where I trick him into letting me out, if I want to be a truly "good" character than I would use the game where I imprison him right? any advice? I am a little conflicted because I love the feeling of knowing I beat that demon spawn back into the nine hells

Ah the truly "good" approach.

When I played through this part of the game I was a neutral evil half-drow wild mage, so I didn't much care about helping the Helmites so to speak, I cared about the rewards! Of course, I also didn't care for being manipulated either, so of course I accepted Demogorgon's offer, went out, had a little chat with Orden and snickered as he and his followers ran screaming into the Keep.

Personally, I'd accept the scroll from the Spectre, but choose to enter the Keep. I'd head down, and defeat Demogorgon. I'd do this for a couple reasons - one being the Demogorgon fight is too much of a challenge for me to turn down, and because it's also worth more experience to do it that way.

Simply getting the scroll from the Spectre and using it to seal the Keep gets you 25,000 experience (for accepting the task) and another 80,000 (quest experience) for completing it.

On the other hand, if you accept the task, but opt to enter the Keep, you still get the 25,000 experience, as well as the 100,000 quest experience for defeating Demogorgon (plus any additional exp you got from killing his summoned friends). Additionally, you also get another 20,000 quest experience for speaking to Orden.

Either way, your alignment goes unaltered. From a role-playing point of view, however - either way you're dispensing with the evil Demogorgon, and in fact putting yourself at risk to do so (rather than sit outside the keep and seal it up with a scroll). You could also look at it as attempting to save the miserable knights that sent you down there in the first place.

I suppose that sealing up the Keep is a slightly more wise choice - keeping him imprisoned means he can't someday find his way back into the Prime Material plane (but killing him did banish him from it for quite some time). It's ultimately up to you, but there are a lot of different ways you could role-play this (being good doesn't mean that you always make the wisest choices), and it has no official impact on your alignment in either case.

I have one of my character's armed with a +5 mace and it's not doing anything to the snake thing. Is there something I'm missing?

Also, I know this is going to sound stupid, but how do you remove Protection from Magical Weapons from an enemy? Thanks

The Mage Spells Breach, Peirce Magic, or Spell Thrust should take care of most of kinds of protections

I was fairly certain that it was a high enchantment (you can only get +6 weapons) but it has been awhile since I've dealt with Y'tossi. I remember sending my summoned swords at her, and they seemed to do pretty well, but it seems that I was incorrect as far as that goes, because summoned swords act as +4 weapons, not +5 (as I was thinking), making the requirements for hitting her even lower.

I'm really not sure why you're not able to hit her with that weapon - by all accounts you should be able to (unless she's casting mantle, improved mantle, absolute immunity, or protection from magical weapons - and I really don't remember whether she can/does).

If it's just a matter of not dealing any damage, she may have additional damage resistance. If you're actually getting the message that your weapon is ineffective, then it's something else.

I wish I could remember whether or not she cast Protection from Magic Weapons. I also wish I didn't have TDD installed currently, or I'd pull up the appropriate creature file and see what I could figure out. Next time you encounter her, make sure she isn't casting (it's easy to miss in battle spam). If she throws up any of the protection spells I listed above you'll have to get rid of them with Breach beforehand.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help , if you're still having a problem with her, I'm sure someone with a better memory than I have will be along.
