Was going for the Staff of Ashes. These Rapax guys on the bridge started attacking, but they were going after the prisoners we released. Heavy damage to them (115 HP in one move, etc.). No one killed, but we were moving to get out of the action, being out of range and focusing on the Staff. I think I saw it happen once before. Beyond this prison break, I haven't seen any use for these Rapax prisoners. A loose end perhaps.

Do the prisoners do anything? When I opened their cell’s all they did was stand there.

I think the prisoners are just decorations that never go any further. Even if you kill Al Sedexus and the Lava Lord they will still scream in panic. I'm guessing the programmers never got around to coding them leaving.

I talked to the prisoners until they screamed "Kill us", and proceeded to do so. They dropped some items. Really, they're just stinky rapax, they're going to die anyway, and besides they told me to. I didn't think it was out of line. I don't recall a faction hit.

I don't know if they left their cells or were being slaughtered inside them. We only knew what was happening from the messages, and the Rapax group looked like it was moving toward the cell area. We weren't targeted, being close enough to witness but out of firing range. They stayed in their cells every time we checked on them in previous games. Maybe it was the combination of us being within range of the battle and a Rapax party happening to be in the right spot.

You can always just open the cells for the items you can find in there.
