This party will be based around Durin the Deathless a Dwarven Fighter with the Most VIT and Iron Skin possible. He will be the only one on the front line. His goal is to take all the dammage and dishing out the dammage later is an afterthought.

Behind him 4 pure casters - one of each. They will Buff, throw the heat, and most importantly keep Durin healty, awake and kicking. SPD and SEN for initative will important here.

Finnaly, I'll want a ranged attacker. Probably a Ranger, but maybe a Gageteer. He will be on one flank.

Later I will pick up Vi for the other flank. I really love her polearm skills.

I will skip all lock pick skills using Knock instead. But should I get Myles for PickPocket? In my current game I haven't gotten anything worth while from pickpocket. More importantly, Durin won't associate with anyone who steals. I think I'll just stick with seven party members.

I'm worried Durin will be paralyzed or Knocked out and then he'll get whooped. Perhaps I will work on PIE after VIT for more resistance.

Comments anyone?

Sounds like fun.

You must play EQ it seems, with the terms like tank and buff. Never heard those terms used till I played EQ.

No, never played EverQuest. Too much hack and slash for my taste. My favorite role playing games are the Baulder's Gate series and The Elder Scrolls series.

Tank is a term I used since the first time I played a tough as nails Dwarven fighter in ADD.

I picked up Buff from reading this board.

Tank, Buff and many other lil terms of endearment have been around since the mid 80's and maybe even the 70's used in PnP Dungeons and Dragons.

The trick with picking pockets is to stick with it long enough. Most NPC's have at least one really good item, a few decent ones, and a lot of trash. For instance, if you keep at Burz long enough, he'll cough up a very nice Enchanted Bow (and I think it's the only way to get one). Chief Gari has a great Ring of Stars. You can grab Raven's Bill from Tremain (okay, it's -1 hp, but get an Amulet of Healing for, say, Vi, give her the Bill, and have some fun!).

The sneaky part is to not believe the "nothing more to steal" message. You need to get that about 5-6 times in a row before it's true. Of course, best results are obtained with someone who is really good at picking pockets (or becomes so after awhile ).

Antone coughs up A LOT of great stuff. Mantis boot and gloves, enchanted wakizashi, dragon kite, etc.

That was my plan at first too, but main-tanking doesn't work so well in Wiz8. The problem is that no matter how high you jack up your resistance there are many special attacks that you simply cannot avoid(swallow, KO...ie), and some that you cannot cure easily in the next round. I found that you really need 2 frontline meleers to be effective, PCs just get paralyzed/stunned/KOed/swallowed/insta-death/etc too easily for 1 single tank to handle it all.

Durin the Deathless:

That's my first party exactly (profession-wise)
1 Fighter 1 Ranger and 4 pure spellcasters.

I did not take any permanent RPCs. Just some of them for a couple of minutes to finish their quests. I hate those XP stealers.

I did not miss pickpocket. Sure Antone drops some good stuff, but nothing that can't be found somewhere else.

What I also did, is a massive class change at level 18:
Mage -> Samurai
Priest -> Lord
Psionic -> Bishop
Alchemist -> Ninja
