Books- Oldies but Goodies :D

hey, just wondering if anyone here has read Stephen R. Donaldson's Daughter of Regals & Other Tales, published in 1984. Or, Elizabeth A. Lynn's Chronicles of Tornor, copyrighted in 1979. If you have, any suggestions for books of the same genre that are just as good are more than welcome. [img]smile.gif[/img] I may be young, but I can appreciate a good book when I see one.

Definitely suggest Daughter of Regals & Other Tales for reading, for those who like fantasy. What am I saying?! You prolly wouldn't be at this site if you didn't like D&D

I've read (and enjoyed) 'Daughter of Regals', and the duology 'The Mirror of her Dreams' and 'A Man Rides Through' - also by Donaldson - springs to mind as books in the same genre. [img]smile.gif[/img]

[img]smile.gif[/img] The short story "Gilden-Fire," in Daughter of Regals & Other Tales is from a series he had written... the name escapes me at the moment... the last of the 3 in the series was White Gold Wielder or something like that. But anyways, he had to take out the story from the book, because the publisher said it was too long or something odd like that. So if anyone knows what I'm talking about and has read the 3 book series, I suggest taking a look at it.

You are referring to the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever: Lord Foul's Bane, The Illearth War, and The Power that Preserves in trilogy 1; The Wounded Land, The One Tree, and White Gold Wielder in trilogy 2. Captivating series to which I was introduced back in high school. Definitely first-class reading! [img]graemlins/awesomework.gif[/img]

If you liked those and the Mirror duet, then you should also check out his Gap Cycle (Donaldson's foray into science fiction).

Yes! that's it! i could remember his name, but not the series ^^; my Dad just read "Gilden-Fire" and thought it was confusing and didn't have an ending, but he hasn't read the series in a really long time so...

Have you tired Ursula LeGuin’s Earthsea trilogy?

A Wizard of Earthsea
The Tombs of Atuan
The Farthest Shore

LeGuin’s world is asr ich and as deep as Tolkein’s Middle Earth.

It is a non-standard story of a boy in training to become a Wizard. He struggles with both his arrogance and with his fears.
Instead of grand a wizard “destined for greatness and epic battles the story is about a simple boy who becomes a wizard and tells his story. Instead of the usual "end-of-the-world" theme the main character becomes involved in a personal battle against his own doubts and fears.

ooooh, most definitely! [img]smile.gif[/img] personally, i prefered the second book out of the trilogy, but that's just my opinion. a very good read... i'm glad i like stopping in old book stores, you never know what goodies you can find
