I'm in U. Beard soloing a F/M/T and want to face the winged bad guy in the cellar. My game is patched, the exp. cap remover the only mod in use. Whenever the fight carries on for some time, BG crashes back to desktop. I'm not sure but I have the impression it happens when the results of Aec'Lec's paralyzing stare wear off. But this is just a guess. It might as well be the legions of summons I'm using to keep him away from me. Any ideas? Thank you.

Well done for getting this far with a solo game - there's nothing I can think of to explain why the game crashes, but I can tell you how I solo'd through this battle.

I used stealth and invisibility to clear out everything in the room without A-L-T even seeing me, then I finished him off by expoilting his weakness against a particular high level spell.
Who knows a change of tactics might avoid the bug that causes the crash.

Could be a corrupt .bam or something. A complete re-install from scratch is time consuming, but likely to fix and problems from corrupt files. Make sure your discs are in good condition first though.

Didn't bother to reinstall - tried it Migdet's way. After a lot of sneaking, hiding and ducking away (and some sucessful saving throws against his stare) he went down. Thanks for the help.

Well done, but don't get it wrong - the real Midget tactic is to punch him in the knee-caps.

Midget Gems, small but perfectly formed.

My latest enounter (never solo, and so always about party experience) with Aec'Lec was in my current BGT run. Don't want to start a new thread, just want to share some thoughts.

I did it first with the stealth killing cultists tactic, easy win. Too easy, and so the second time ... charging in, with everyone buffed appropriately...much more exciting. Here are the key defensive buffs we need (don't need to worry about saving throws),

*resist fear
*potion of mirrored eyes/or protection from paralyization
*Priest spell - free action/and Potion of free action + potion of magic blocking and potion of magic shielding (the potion cannot work fully protect the party from being held while the priest spell can)
*Spellcasters need magic blocking/shielding as well in case affected by the silence spell.

Are you sure potion of free action is working? Tried it once, but I got paralyzed.

that's why I siad: potion of free action *plus* potion of magic blocking/shielding. Also, this is not to protect you from being paralyzed, but from being held. Potion of free action alone isn't sufficient while the priest spell of free action can completely protect you from being held.

Protection from paralyization spell and potion of mirrored eyes are for his gaze (have to block out his gaze, otherwise, even you win the battle, you'll turn into a monster).
