What is the most challenging foe to you and your party.
A party of fighters that are three levels higher than your party. *When I mean fighters I mean such as rangers barbarians etc A party of clerics that are three levels higher than your party *When I mean clerics I mean druids and other priests. A party of thieves that are three levels higher than your party with some invisbilty potions. A party of mages that are three levels higher than your party. WHY!?

The party of Clerics are likely to be the toughest to face. There are so many ways of dealing with high level mages that it’s not really a challenge. High level fighters are still fighters and thieves even significantly higher are never much to worry about.

It would depend on what lvl your party was. eg. A low level party will be chunkified by a group of thieves because they can't protect against backstab ( think rune thieves right outa irenicuses dungeon). However, a high level party would have the most trouble with the mages or clerics ( note: the enemies lvls are directly relational to your level ). True sight eliminates many of the thief advatages, but how do you protect against Imprisonment and other mage ToB HLAs? If you're in vanila SoA then it is possible to have enemies 3 lvls higher casting spells you can't, not to mention most enemies cheat... My point is - because the lvl of enemies are dependant upon the players lvl the lvl of the player's character determines what is the toughest battle. Of course battles rarely have just ONE class and that is what makes them fun. [/RANT] My Vote is for the clerics. Natures beauty and Insect Swarm alone can change the tide of the batle, not to mention Ironskins, Chant, Bless, DUHM, and other buffs. The mage is a close second because of Mordys and Skeletal wariors, the mage buffs are also not to shabby. Thiefs are third one smart thief can kill a party using invisibility potions and some smart targating choices-fortunately most don't. Fighters are last because the PC can always out smart a enemie who only has one real way of hurting you(Running and pelting with missile weaponds comes to mind). Theres my two cents.

Actually, in early game, I'd choose the Thieves. If you want to see what I mean, then install Improved Ilyich. It gave me fits the last time that I fought against those thieves. Mid game; Fighters. Fighters are actually quite hard, if used properly. And, of corse, with proper AI. Late game; Mages. Remember, if you can hit something, then you can kill it. Mages are just too damn good to avoid being hit. However, a Mage AI script is just too hard to find. A really good one, that is.

Yes I guess I should have given a description what level your party is.
Okay then I say level 1 Take that back. I meant overall I haven't put too much thought on level even though it greatly depends on your partys level. and I haven't shared my opinion how notty me. Mages that are a huge pain fireballs so many protections it's just amazing. Well until you cast Breach after that you will see all those meaty bits all over the screen. Besides that Thieves. When thieves drink an invisbilty potion they are completely invisible. Well I ask how are you able to cast True Sight when they stab you in the BACK!! Not to mention their backstab multiplier. Ouch can do over forty damage. Thirdly clerics the only real thing I am worried about them is their hold person spell nothing much really. They usually try to cast the spell first. Lastly fighters well a fighters that are level 3 highers than your party can be a pain to. Quote:
2 fighters-To keep the enemy busy while the cleric and wizard cast spells 1 cleric-To heal their party members and casts spells that empower themselves or party members and help assist with the fighters. 1 thief- To soften up the enemy before the enemy comes contact with the party. 1 mage- Cast area affecting spells to soften the foe up or cast spells that would help the fighters defeat their foe quicker. I think I forgot one hm. Anyway your fighters are supposed to be a distraction right? Well they won't last long when the higher level fighters are chopping away your lower level fighters. Sure it would last a while. But not all the fighters would deal with your fighters The other fighters who are not fighting your fighters will attack your mage and cleric. Nobody gives the who ha about the theif because he misses almost every time. Imagine if all the fighters have haste! But I am not saying that a party of fighters are the best party. I mean cmon sure they would be able to slaughter their way through an orc horde but what about a mage. One single mage. Mage sees fighter, fighter chase mage or shoot from a distance. Mage quickly casts stoneskin. Quickly mage has firewall, Protection from Magical or Nonmagical Weapons. Mage smile and shoots lightning bolt, fireball and well.... you know the fighters are usually dead. Hm I guess I went overboard with the fighters thing more later and those are my 3 cents ![]() [ 06-25-2003, 01:06 AM: Message edited by: Sythe ]

i don't think mages to be good in bg2 ... example :
to kill a lich you need 1*monstersummoning I , 2*breach , 1*truesight , 1*remove magic ... and some arrows +1 ... lame. so i choose the fighters, they get good saving throws fast especially if they are dwarfs, high-hp and AC. thieves lame, too : 1*true sight and finish'em. clerics : normally they start too buff theirselves and then fight you. not much offensive magic. they are dead before finishing their boostings. It's all about what classes your party combines.
If e.g. you have NO mages in your party the enemy Mages will most definitely chunkify you. I would go for the clerics however as they have the most annoying anti-party spells and thus cause trouble to not only one of you - Insects are of course the worst.
