OK, I went through the Demogorgon conversation once, he appeared, and kicked my butt.

Any tips on:

1) What's the most productive path to take in the conversation? Do I want him to appear?

2) If he does appear, how best to fight him?

1) Read out the scroll given to you by the Helm Knights. Agree to help Demogorgan. Tell the knights you killed Demogorgan. Accept the scroll of sealing from the Helmite Ghost. Drop the scroll on the ground. Go back to Demogorgan. Fight and vanquish Demogorgan. Go back to the scroll you dropped and read it.

You need to drop the scroll because if the scroll is in your inventory when you defeat Demogorgan, the scroll will disappear.

2) Prepare some sucky summons, and make sure everybody is buffed up. Make Demogorgan hostile and engage. Your Mages should cast Breaches, Khelben's Warding Whips, Ruby Ray of Reversals, Lower Resistances, etc... ... while your tanks activate Greater Whirlwinds and wail on Demogorgan.

When Demogorgan Death Spells the first wave of summons, summon your best summons now. Planetar, Elemental Prince, Skeleton Warriors, Aerial Servants, etc... ...

Keep up the tempo, when he stoneskins, Breach, protection from magical weapons, Pierce Shield, etc... ...

Thanks, that's really helpful, but why all the complications. What's wrong with just killing him the first time, what do you lose that way?

Hmm.. then you are about to lose a lot of EXP.

The reason why you want to read the scroll is because it gives you a lot of exp points, killing Demogorgon will have you lots of it, and with those knights butts kicked, you will know what is the plot behind the whole thing...

Here's an exploitable bug for extra exp (I think):
When I received the scroll of sealing from the ghost, I went down (after telling the knights that I had killed Demogorgon) to the entrance of the Demogorgon's level, read the scroll to seal all in, then ENTERED the Demogorgon's level again and proceeded to fight with him.
