I have decided, after just completing it, that the Balduran's island subquest is the most frustrating to complete. The "beasties" are just so fast and strong, that I did have to reload numerous times due to losing my Thief or my Mage....cos there are just so damn many of them!!!
Does anyone think their is a more frustrating quest than this??? I've now done both major subquests in Ulgoth's Beard in the last 3hours, and I'm currently stood outside Durlags. Can't wait until I get to the fight of the wards again!! That's a wicked fight! I'm afraid....very afraid!!!

I found the archaeological dig the most irritating. I thought "great, I've killed six wimpy miners, and I'm getting all this experience for doing squat" until I got outside, where I found a doomguard waiting for me. My party was at around level three by this time and far too weak to kill it. So I had to outrun the bastard in the end, which was annoying, as I wanted to do the quest properly.

you could've just left the idol there... as for annoying subquest. I dont' like Durlag's tower at all. i'm in the second floor of the basement, and those wards are a pisser

Try doing Durlags without a thief!

That dig was easy, although in the end I left the Idol there and skipped the guard...I was at a very low level when I got to him!!! I'm gonna go back for it I think....And If I'm correct, I can remember where the other idol is (in the cave with the coffins), but I cant remember what screen that is on, and I dont know what to do with them anyway. I just want the exp for the Doomguard!!!
And Durlags is extremely fun! I've just completed the top half, and I'm just about to enter the basements!! I cant wait til I get up to the wards again, it was one of my fave fights of the game!! And attempting to outfox Durlag Trollkiller without a theif is just plain stupid!!!!

I absolutely hate that dungeon maze under Gullykin. The one infested with an infinite number of Commando Kobolds. You get virtuallt FA experience for returning the armor and killing LOTS of Kobolds and seemingly no matter how good you're AC, you WILL take a beating (which is unsuprising when you consider the fact that you're being constantly barraged by 1,000,000 flaming arrows) I hate Kobolds >
![]() I likr the "family of zombies" quest the most. The +2 hammer is nice also |

Spoilers as to locations of various battles:
The top level of the shipwreck is very tough indeed. I wasn't that crazy about Balduran's island in general, but that is a good fight at the end. I found that is exceedingly difficult to win without summoning monsters or skeletons, and since I restrict myself from using those spells or wands I'm curious as to how several parties I'm currently using are going to fare there. (Hmm, although I do think it is very much in character for an evil necromancer or cleric to cast Animate Dead. Maybe I'll let them do that for the tough fights.) I really liked Durlag's. I enjoy the all the fights there, pretty much. The Firewine/Gullykin dungeon is torture. I didn't care for the Candlekeep catacombs all that much. Although chapter 6 is sort of dreamlike, dealing with false appearances and illusions. etc., and if a somewhat disoriented atmosphere was mostly intentional it was pretty well done. At that particular point I just didn't feel like doing any more dungeons, I think. I don't care for dungeon-crawling in BG1 because of it's lousy pathfinding. It's been ages now since I fought it, but I recall that the most satifsying battle for me was the one at the top of the Iron Throne, because in addition to being damned hard it goes on for much longer time than most fights. Some battles I enjoy taking on at low to mid level: Kahrk, the ogre mage at the Firewine Bridge assassins in the Gullykin map Osmadi and Corsone (druids in Larswood) Some of the battles are pissers with Dark Side, don't want to spoil anyone... except to say that one of the druid encounters in Cloakwood is wild! I still haven't done a lot of the fights in BG city. There must be easily be two dozen of them waiting for me. I've heard the Gorpel Hind and Degrodel's house fights are great fun. Very much looking forward to all that.

The Firewine/Gullykin dungeons are very easy, when you know what you need to complete them. Either the Large Shield +1/+4 vs missile weapons or the Cloak Of Displacement. Or both. This can make 1/ or 2 people immune to arrow attacks.
The top level of Balduran's ship was a very hard fight, and that is why I made this thread. I casted haste, defensive harmony, bless, protection from evil. I cast mirror image on Dynaheir...I then made her cast resiliant sphere, so 2 beasts attackeed her, did no damage, but were taken out of the equation. I made Jaheria cast entangle. I then got all 6 members to attack the beasts 1 by 1, until only the Greater Wolfwere was left. Now he is incredibly hard to beat, and the 6000xp is just not high enuf!!! I gave both Khalid and Minsc Bastard Sword+1/+3 vs Shapeshifters, Khalid the wolfsbane necklace, and Dynaheir the dagger +4 shapeshifters. This way, I got him to take enough damage to die before he killed any member of my party. That's about how I did it!!!
