I'm getting together with a couple friends this Saturday to start up what will be my first multiplayer BG1/ToSC game. We're having a bit of difficulty thinking of an interesting "theme" for our party (classic D&D party, all midgets, bunch of goodie two-shoes, band of thieving scoundrals, etc.). There's only going to be three of us so our choices are a little more limited than we'd like, but we're not afraid to try out weird or challenging party make-ups. Any ideas?

Roleplay your characters. Write histories for them and play them 'in character'. It makes the game fresh because you are required to approach it in imagination, and then act, as if you had never done any of it before. You'll find yourself using the surroundings very creatively. There's a ton of great reference stuff available online about the Forgotten Realms for writing as detailed a history as you would like. Three players is about just right for a RP'ed game. How you mesh in terms of your roleplaying styles will make a big difference in how much you enjoy yourselves, of course.

Or how about writing down all the class combinations on slips of paper, putting them in a hat, and go with the luck of the draw. (And if you really want an added challenge then accept your first rolls when creating the characters.)
