Well, you have to be a fan of this movie if you like roleplaying, right? I thought they did a very good job on the movie; I've read all three of the books, and the book "The Hobbit" or whatever it was called, I don't remember. I prefer the Special extended version of the film.

Anyway, wouldn't this make a great mod, or more likely, a total conversion? I mean, you could make it very accurate, right? This has probaly been talked about alot, huh? I don't know much about mods and stuff, heck, I can barely install a mod, but if someone did this, it would be great. I would pay money for something like this.

Of course, you would have to be able to recruit NPCs like strider and company, but you would have to be able to create a party too. (This is arguably one of the greatest adventures of all time; and what better adventure to take a party through.) You could even have a couple characters who try to take the ring and whatnot. If it was accurate to the movie/books enough, you could probaly just use the movie/books as a walkthrough.

Anyway, just a thought. If I had the ability, I would have been working on this for some time now.

i already use LOTR portraits but making this mod would probably result in completely reprogramming the game (which is not clever).
if u really like RPG there r 3 LOTR games out at the mo:
the official fellowship one by black label games:
good but short
the PS2 two towers:
supposed to be good but short again
or u could buy the one by interplay (though i have never seen it) which is based on the Neveverwinter Nights engine which is more or less BG2. u level up etc.
but ur right, it would make one ace mod (i wonder if u could romance arwen and fight aragorn for her )

There's a mod floating around called Battle at the Deep which is supposed to be a LotR related battle (Helm's Deep maybe?!) I haven't played it, though, so i can't be sure. If you want to check it out it's here

Also, if you think Tolkien's work is cool, then you should check out his best. The Silmarillion is a much better story (IMO) though is written in a different style to encompass 600 years into one book.

After sthe Silmarillion jump onto Unfinshed theales to get even more information. The History of the Making of the lort of the rings series is also very interesting.

However I LotR is greatly affected by huge wars, how a party would survive fighting a hundred thousend orcs or how any pc would handle 100000 orcs and about 10000 allies and general events at the same on the screen is a complete mystery to me
Though thats my dream scenario, fighting the last battle with some Uber mage that put up some havy fireworks on the battleground

Well, you could always just tell the journey from a specific characters point of view like Frodo as he goes to destroy the ring, or Gandalf as he rides all over the place killing demons and whatnot. *shrug* I think that would be about the only way this would be doable without totally revamping the game engine

it's the battle of helm's deep and if you can manage to get it i don't know how fast your connection is but it's really worth the download. it is very hard i played it like 3 times now and i still an't find a way to complete it

Try reading through it again but while you're doing it start to make a list of who people are. It can get very confusing because there are so many names. I thought it was pretty good even though i didn't know what was going on half the time.
A silmarillion mod could be made pretty easy. Your party could encounter Ulmo who asks you to retrieve the silmarillion from morgoth, send them to a dungeon with loads of balrogs and orcs finish it off with a huge fight with morgoth and get the jewel and bring it back for a hefty reward. Or be attacked by the elves that wanted the jewel on your way back.

You have to use the indexes and the appendices quite alot to get something out of it, but in the end its quite a good story and you understand much more of the plot in LotR

Myabe I'll download after I see The Two Towers on the 18th. So, what exactly do you do in the battle? I wouldn't mind participating in a battle with floods of weaker enemies just attacking and attacking and testing my parties endurance. I would like to see how my party would hold up.

However, I think that you could just revamp the game, and run it on the Infinity engine (hence the total conversion) but like I said, I don't know crap about computers, somaybe you can't do that. I don't know.

Also, what is this "silmarillion" or whatever? I've been looking for something good to read, and this sounds interesting.
