... is expected to be removed from the Endangered Species Act. From less than 400 mating pair in the mid-1960s, the Eagle has grown to number 7000 mating pairs now. Don't grab your guns just yet, though, folks, it will still likely be illegal to hunt them, I think.

Let's hope so. I can't imagine there'd be much meat on them anyway, so what would be the point in hunting them? Unless you are just a sadistic sport killer...

It's good to hear the species is doing fine. The bald eagle is one of the most beautiful and graceful animals on the planet. Like the Hierophant said, you gotta have a serious screw loose if you wanna shoot something as beautiful as that.

Ya shoot 'em, stuff 'em, and stick 'em over the fire place!

If you really want to save a species, just announce that it is good to eat. Farms will be raising them overnight.

You can taxidermy them though. Egyptians got good at it in a way through mummification.

Ick, john, ick.

Anyway, at least this thread did not turn out to what ask what it could have -- namely, the nuances and distinctions under the Endangered Species Act. The last thing I wanted to do is answer a litany of questions as to how an animal gets listed or de-listed, and what the differences between "endangered" and "threatened" under the ESA may be.
