I have installed BG 1 on my XP machine for the first time, and I'm having trouble getting the patch to install. I keep getting a message telling me to go to the control panel. Does anybody know what needs to be done?

Does the game run? If so, the patch may be corrupt and you will need to DL it again. Also, if you have any AV running, turn it off.

On the boware forums there was something about updating the installer, but that was for bg2, maybe the same applies? Try checking the FAQ on the Bioware site.

I had a friend that had this problem. He has the International version of the game and was trying to install the U.S. patch. I believe either the same, or exact opposite thing is happening here. (if that bioware forum helped you already, then good, but if not, hope this solved the problem.)

I've never had any trouble with the patch on my Win ME system. I've already had Icewind Dale 1&2 on the XP machine and I had no trouble installing their patches.

I've run BG1 and 2 on my XP, but no problems here, so I have no idea what may fix your problem.
