OK.

Kensai is a fighter class, therefore you need to start as a fighter. You will also need to start as a human because only humans can legitimately dual class (anyone chipping in with information about multiclasses will get shot).

You will need a strength of at least 15 and an intelligence of at least 17 to successfully dual class in SoA.

Most people dual-wield with the Kensai build, most common weapon chosen being the Katana. In BG 2 we actually get to reselect weapon proficiencies, so for BG 1 put all of your points into longsword, we can get a very powerful weapon very early in the game.

The best levels to dual class are dependant upon whether or not you have ToB installed and how much you are wanting to powergame.

With 8 million experience points, you could have a L21 Kensai/L22 Mage which can destroy anything.

The other 'good' level to dual class at is L13 as a fighter. This allows the character to get an identical number of attacks to the L21 Kensai and more spells from the mage aspect.

Stats-wise, I would go something like...

STR 18/**
DEX 18
CON 18 (bonus fighter HP)
INT 17
WIS ?? Who cares?
CHA ?? Again, who cares?

Charisma will have a larger effect on your gaming experience, so it is probably more important to get a higher score in that than in Wisdom.

If you are REALLY powergaming, maximise everything except for CHA and rely on the Ring of Human Influence to get you by.

Keep every scroll you find in your travels in BG2 before you dual class (stash them in the Adventurer's Mart). As soon as you dual class, drink a few potions of genius to get 24-5 intelligence and start to scribe the scrolls.

If you have duplicate scrolls, remove the spells from your spellbook and re-scribe them until you have none left... this maximises experience gains.

When you hit level up after doing this, you should hit about L11 as a mage instantly.

Any good to you?

Well, the experience cap for SoA is 2,950,000 which lets us get to...

L13 Kensai - 1,250,000
L14 Mage - 1,500,000

2,750,000 out of 2,950,000

Yeah, dual at level 13

Forgot to mention that you need to boot everyone from your party before using this trick to ensure you get ALL of the experience points.
