Finally found a room with several ore piles, but when I use the pickaxe on the ore piles, it says "the ore pile isn't working." Am I in the wrong place or am I doing something wrong?

I have tried resetting using the "reset adventures" button, but nothing happens. I clicked the button and then clicked "Yes" when it asks if I want to reset adventures. What am I doing wrong?
