I am going to recreate some characters from one of my favorite fantasy adventure book series and 3 of the characters in the book wield axe, mace and hammer, so I need to know if there any powerful weapons of that type. I'd like to accurately recreate these characters but if there are no powerful weapons of that type then I guess I'll have to loosely base my party on these characters instead. The last thing I want is to have my three main tanks using weapons that are crap lol

There's one decent hammer I can think of, but you don't get it until near the end.
Game is pretty sparse on good hammers. There's a +1 throwing greataxe. That alone makes G Axe worth it Maces are another thing the game is kinda sparse on. You'll find tons of longswords though.

There's a great lopsided throwing axe you get in the first quarter of the game, as well as some interesting axes throughout.
There's a couple of really cool maces/morning stars that do elemental damage that come in about halfway through the game. Hammers? Well, hammers exist, but are not so plentiful. If you like spoilers, you can find a decent list of weapons at: http://www.gamebanshee.com/icewindda...nt/hammers.php Sadly, a lot of cool items in IWD2 are either random drops (no telling if you'll see them or not) or show up in the HOF section... -Raffin |

I'd rate axes as one of the best weapon choices for the game for high str characters- perhaps followed closely by two handed swords
I played a halfling barbarian x/Stormlord 4x that used hammers for both ranged and melee work and he did fine with them for the most part. The thing is the way the weapon profs work if you are playing any sort of warrior (or even have a single level in a warrior class they get proficiencies in almost all weapons automatically so even if your "chosen" weapon is a little behind the curve for a while theres nothing stopping you from using whatever is available until you find a better one in your chosen one.

I have always veered away from 2 handed weapons(2HW) in favor of weapon plus shield, I keep trying to go with 2HW but when I start to get an increase in hits to my character I quickly drop the 2HW, cowardly I know, but thats my story. But maybe next time.

For a high str character (18+) the extra 1.5X damage bonus with the two hander really adds up to dead enemies quicker altho all my two handers have a sword/board in another slot just in case they start to get the snot beat out of them but rarely have to use it... All of my guys/gals carry a variety of weapons by damage types too, (slashing, blunt, etc) for those times when their usual weapon is being resisted they can switch to another damage type.
