Is self determinism for a nation not equally as valid a right?

Help help - I am being repressed .
Interesting article Drammy - a great one for the conspiracy nutters to pick apart. There are plenty here on the forum who would say I don't sit with the "Christian Right" viewpoint of the world - in fact I disagree with a large majority of their views on issues like tolerance, abortion, Harry Potter et al . I wouldn't however believe that we in OZ are being seriously deprived by "those extremists" in losing the ability to watch the odd film or two of dubious nature. Certainly I wouldn't be shelling out my "hard earned" on any of the movies quoted. You will probably throw up the "thin end of the wedge" argument, but the whole wedge is looking pretty thin from where i am standing.

And by banning the film, all children in Australia will no longer feel inclined to have sex till 16, and none will ever be the victims of sexual predetors. Thank god for the lyons group and those of a like mind. the currant leader of our country *Hollingworth* would just blame it on the children anyway Now we can go back to hiding the problem and never discussing the issues because it's an uncomfortable issue.

Could someone please paraphrase if anyones around, its 2:ish am here.
the gist seems to be that some aussies dont want other assies to be able to see a cirtain film, because of the films nature. i really dont understand why this film would be band, if it is for adults and by adults to raise awareness of a problem. oh wait, i can. POLITICS. someone wants this movie to be band becase then they can get more 'hamful'* material band. well if there is one thing i wont stand for its oppressing /silencing people. why does someone think that by watching a movie we are going to get ideas for real life? if a murderer has watched something violant in his life, why is that the cause? if it was surely murder would be the norm and not murder the minority. same with this film. i really dislike the idea that i am ruled by the things i see, not the actions i choose to make. if this is harmful material, let the people make the choise themselves to see/notsee it. i cant tell you weather weather we are ruled by vision or not, but i would at least let YOU make your choise. im probably making little sence as its still 2:ish *'harmful' meaning they consider it harmful.

sounds like this film is about a pretty serious issue in society... but hey, why not sweep it under the carpet and pretend it doesn't exist. That ought to supress the problem.
But it doesn't make any ground towards solving it, and it won't. As for what it can do to help it... thats equally as debatable. Perhaps they're working off the 'ignorance is bliss' theory, whereby what people don't know won't hurt them. I think the average person has enough common sense to look at a film subjectively, and if its good, to take away some new ideas or thoughts about the issue. I don't personally think films affect people in the way they are made out to, although there are exceptions to every rule and clearly a lot of people out there who take TV and Film far too literally. Some people just don't want to see the truth. It hurts, but personally I'd rather be aware of the pain than go on in my own little world, pretending everything is fine. Does that make me a conspiracy nutter?

It would be nice if the government over here would ban some of the trash coming out of Hollywood.
